OCCUPATION: LICENSED PRACTICAL AND LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSES 29-2061

This is a tobacco-free position incumbent must not currently be using any form of tobacco.

Incumbent must hold a current CPR certification as well as a current Florida Nursing License.

This posting will fill vacancies at both Boca Ciega and Largo High School, incumbent must have access to and use of dependable transportation to get to and from work location. Please indicate on your application which school you are interested in working.

This is a 10 month position, working only during the school year.

Work schedule will vary according to school start times.

DUTIES

Direct Health Services / Clinic Duties:

In accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 464, the LPN is able to perform under the direction of a registered nurse, a licensed physician, a licensed osteopathic physician, a licensed pediatric physician, or a licensed dentist the following duties:

Promotion of wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness using the nursing process of interview, observation, and evaluation.

Conducts interviews to obtain pertinent historical, physical and social data to determine the medical, social, and psychological need of client/family/community

Communicates long and short term school health and goals and assists in revisions.

Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions

Makes appropriate referrals

Follows protocols outlined by supervisor for administration of over the counter medications for uncomplicated clients

Reviews student physicals and other health information for chronic conditions in order to develop a health awareness list

Develops a care plan that promotes optimal health when in school.

Summarizes and reports current trends in health status of students in order to identify and resolve health care problems.

Interprets health needs of students to appropriate school personnel

Demonstrates willingness to cross-train and increase competency in clinics as needed

The LPN can perform the following clinical duties independently:

Client services are performed within the established policies and procedures of the LPN scope of practice and consistent with individual's educational preparation

Provide first aid, acute, and emergency care to ill/injured students, faculty, and staff

Obtains student's vital signs, weight, and height

Provide for the safe and accurate administration of medications, immunizations, health screenings, and nursing procedures (venipuncture, nebulizer, glucose measurement, urinalysis, etc.)

Advises and counsels client on health promotion, STD & HIV risk reduction, and care and management of disease states

Prepares lab specimens accurately for delivery to appropriate facility

Documents on appropriate records all services, assessments, interactions, reactions, evaluations, and plans.

Maintains confidentiality of all records, client interactions, and service according to HIPAA privacy codes.

Provides orientation, health counseling, health education, and relevant health occupation experiences for students, faculty, staff, parents, and the community.

Demonstrates involvement in school, classroom and community activities working toward improving school health

Promotes safety measures and programs in the school to assure a safe and health environment, including adherence to OSHA guidelines for prevention of exposure to blood born pathogens, use of universal precautions, and communicable disease surveillance and education to prevent the spread of infections.

Models cooperation and teamwork through professionalism, assists the examiner as needed, and works toward a school-wide atmosphere of wellness conducive to learning and highest student achievement.

Direct Health Services / Case Management

Services are documented accurately using the electronic health medical records

Reviews student immunizations and conduct interviews with students and parents to obtain pertinent historical, physical, and social data assures students have an updated immunization status.

Initiates accident and injury reports with appropriate documentation.

Reviews and monitors student's plan of care for chronic disease management

Assures annual distribution, collection, and filing of all clinic cards

Other related duties:

Completes EARS and timesheets in People First within mandatory time frame

Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with nursing supervisors to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent

Assists as needed in all F-DOH Pinellas County centers based on agency need

Attends annual staff meetings

Obtain all F-DOH and agency training mandates on yearly basis
