Job Overview:

Macys is looking for a top class PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join macys.com DBA team. The DBA will work with the Engineering/Development and CSS Operations teams and deliver and support new and existing PostgreSQL database systems help guide best practices in PostgreSQL database administration and introduce innovation with automation. The DBA will be responsible for maintaining an environment of dozens of PostgreSQL databases running in a Linux/Unix/Window environment.

The ideal candidate will have great analytical and interpersonal skills, and a strong sense of urgency, Must have in-depth experience in database administration involving management of many SQL Systems, including complex clusters, mirrors, replicated databases and partitions in a highly dynamic enterprise-level environment. Must have advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL Utilities, creation and implementation of fully functional PostgreSQL Server databases, ability to maintain multiple development, QA and production PostgreSQL environments with strong experience in performance tuning on PostgreSQL. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Responsible for providing day-to-day support and maintenance for existing and PostgreSQL databases
Design and build database solutions that are both highly available and highly performing
Assist in the administration, management, and monitoring of all PostgreSQL database systems
Accountable for proper backup and disaster recovery procedures
Good understanding of Database Architecture, Performance tuning of databases, pro-actively Identify bottlenecks and resolve them quickly
Update skills continuously with emerging technologies and apply them as and when needed
Work with developers on performance tuning, query optimization, index tuning
Very strong experience in replication, clustering, tuning, sizing and proactive monitoring
Actively work with developers to solve database/application issues without compromising database best practices and work with them to promote changes to production
Experience with PostgreSQL database systems and a desire to learn new database technologies
Support PostgreSQL database in external cloud and work with various cloud providers as required
Rotate with other DBAs to be on call to quickly fix issues that arise in our production and non-production environments
Self starter, maintains a positive, upbeat, can-do attitude
Be part of a 24/7/365 on-call rotation
Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

BS Degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Information Systems required
7+ years of experience with PostgreSQL
5+ years working in Linux and UNIX environments
Experience in DB migrations from different database technologies such as Oracle to PostgreSQL is required
Expert level of PostgreSQL knowledge and experience with PostgreSQL 9.5
Experience in supporting PostgreSQL databases in external cloud (Google, AWS, etc)
Experience with backups, restores, recovery (xDB/Slony/ Pgbouncer/wal-e)
High Availability Solutions (Master-Master, Master-Slave) and sharding
Strong experience supporting mission critical relational databases in a 24/7 environment
Proficient in tuning database processes and queries
Experience with database schema design, implementation and optimization
Expert level of MySQL knowledge and experience with MySQL 5.6.x is a significant plus
Experience with Cassandra, Mongo DB, HBase, MEMSQL, Oracle 11G, 12c is a plus
Good understanding of Monitoring Tools such as PEM, Monyog, TOAD, Sitescope etc
Shell programming, SQL, PERL a plus
