About this job

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with other MACSD staff, this person will be teaching innovative new media to teens both onsite here at the Media Arts Center's Digital Gym CINEMA as well offsite at various local middle schools and high schools.This will be under the guidance of the Teen Program Coordinator, but there is plenty of room for you to bring in your own practice and this is encouraged.

 

The emphasis will not be on you creating work, but you enabling arts media work to be created by young people during the educational programs and beyond.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Education

  • Teach media and technology literacy to teens (ages 14-19) by providing creative arts programming integrating all elements of filmmaking including pre-production, production and post-production

  • Lead small groups in multi-media classroom activities

  • Encourage collaboration, positive attitude and creativity with fellow students

  • Assist with weekly set-up of media exhibitions at the end of each week

  • Guide and assist teen in delivering their high quality produced short films

  • Technical assistance as needed (navigating the desktop, file organization, transferring files between devices and computers, etc.)

 

Administration

  • Assist with calling parents for follow up

  • Assist with uploading of various media to various blogs, social networks and media sharing sites

  • Assist in developing teen-generated marketing materials (JPGs, GIFs, embeddable video, etc.) for multiple platforms (Facebook, event calendars, etc.)

  • Evaluate success and suggest changes to improve existing structure of teen media programming

  • Assist with daily photo documentation of students

 

Technical Support

  • Lead technical preparation and equipment setup for program

  • Coordinate equipment usage

  • Oversee management of media library: physical and virtual

 

SKILLS

 

Required Skills

 

  • Positive attitude

  • 2 to 3 years experience teaching media to youth, adults or educators.

  • Ability to multi-task in high stress classroom environment

  • Experience working with DSLRS, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere

  • Experience in video production, including lighting, camera, storyboards, & sound

  • Creativity with multimedia

  • Experience working with at-risk youth

  • Experience teaching in traditional or nontraditional settings

  • Skills in video editing, desktop publishing, and/or web page authoring

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work and problem solve independently and to meet deadlines

  • Bachelor's Degree in visual arts,communications or relevant degree

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in curriculum design and developing educational activities for youth.

  • Familiarity with San Diego County neighborhoods and communities

  • Experience supervising youth adults, high school students, and middle school students.

  • Experience working with 14-19 year olds

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
