Job Description – Safety Manager

The Safety Manager works with and through management, to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures and to assist in the achievement of profitability/productivity requirements. Will be required to review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
  • Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
  • Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety practices
  • Maintains safety files and records (UniPoint)
  • Performs safety inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Conducts post accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management
  • Coordinate programs regarding hazardous chemicals and other substances
  • Develop and maintain programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, and asbestos management plans.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies.
  • Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Maintain inventories of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes, to ensure that materials are handled properly.
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as safety representative
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
  • Prefer experience in OSHA, MSHA, DOT and EPA regulatory requirements
  • Excellent Computer and training skills (MS Office a must and UniPoint would be a plus)
