The Senior Scientist plays a key role in ensuring the scientific development of Optum’s world - class patient-reported outcome (PRO) products and services.  This position supports patient-centered outcomes research (e.g., quality of life, functional status assessment, disability, satisfaction, etc.) for client - sponsored and internally - funded projects.  The Senior Scientist acts as a lead for project and proposal completion, including supervising and training junior level staff, and is responsible for overseeing a large portfolio of projects ranging from small, rapid turnover projects to large, multi - phase projects. The Senior Scientist also acts as Subject Matter Expert for therapeutic area(s), analytic method(s) and strategic considerations related to PROs.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Oversees a large portfolio of projects, including overseeing technical and scientific approaches for project and product development
Responsible for substantial business development
Delegates project workload to team members and manages team members assigned project work
Interacts with clients, clinical experts, and research support staff to ensure that projects are completed in a timely fashion and in accordance with quality standards
Responsible for all final project deliverables in which she / he is PI in terms of accuracy, quality, timeliness, and financial project performance
Support sales and marketing through presentation at conferences and to key decision makers in clients and prospects

Required Qualifications:

A PhD in a relevant field
5+ years management experience leading highly-skilled scientific research projects and 10+ years post - doctoral experience
Strong background in measurement and general research methods, including ability to design study protocols, direct data analysis, and interpret results
Demonstrated experience in applying these methods in measure development, validation, implementation, analysis and interpretation in research with stakeholders from the pharmaceutical industry and other health care organizations
Strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); competency in SAS or SPSS; qualitative research skills a plus
Travel requirements As needed for conference attendance, customer meetings, and internal business meetings; approximately one week per month travel on average
