About this job

The Product Manager of Product and Innovation will be responsible for the development, innovation and management of the Employer and Individual product portfolios for their assigned segments. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Product and Innovation. The position is responsible for understanding the competitive landscape in the assigned geography, including products, pricing, network dynamics, medical economics, brand, and distribution, and executing on the needs at the market level. Under direction of the VP of Product and Innovation, this person will work closely with sales, health plan leadership, internal product resources, pricing and UW to identify product and growth opportunities, package those opportunities into executable ideas, gain support for moving those ideas forward, and drive the development process.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Cover a distinct geography and / or segment, where they are expected to understand the major competitors, overall customer needs, delivery systems, distribution channels, and the regulatory environment
Identify areas where new products will meet the needs of emerging customer bases or the changing needs of existing UHC / G customers
Gather feedback from leadership, sales, brokers, consultants, providers, and industry sources, and turn this feedback into data we can use to evaluate opportunities
Work with National Product Development Team(s) to understand how global ideas and emerging technologies can best be implemented in specific markets, at the regional/market level
Actively manage and develop market segment level portfolios
Analyze trends and portfolio performance
Support product marketing development efforts
Drive and execute short - term, as well as longer - term competitive local growth strategies impacting the business direction of their specific health plans

Under the direction of the VP of Product and Innovation, execute the local product portfolios and growth strategies (including identification of risks and opportunities, and problem resolution). This position is the “feet on the street” at the market level
Interface with Local Sales Leadership, Product and Sales Leadership (with particular focus on Exchange and Small Business) and Product Family Owners
Primary interface and “source of truth” at the market level to the Product Infrastructure Team, and Supporting Businesses as needed  (responsible for technical execution of a product introduction and roll - out)
Drive specifications and timelines essential to growth and overall roll - out success
Under the direction of the VP of Product and Innovation,  assimilate and / or incorporate available product, customer and consumer research, field competitive intelligence, and product / sales performance indicators to understand business opportunities and risks as product portfolio(s) are developed and rolled-out
Maintenance of existing product portfolio, including evaluation of the need for changes, sunsetting, re - packaging, etc.

Develop disciplined evaluation process for each health plan and line of business, to ensure products conform to existing market and UHC best practices
Propose changes, secure approval from Product, Sales, and Underwriting leadership, and drive the change process through the Implementation team
Prepare and analyze internal and external data sets to provide insights into market directions, trends, risks and opportunities at the benefit plan level
Communication, including Training, to Sales Leadership, Sales, and distribution channels

Conduct training sessions to explain all new products and product characteristics / changes
Prepare materials for the market to explain new products and product changes
Participate in events where new product initiatives are being covered, including broker seminars and other meetings with distribution channels

Expertise and experience in strategic product portfolio management and measurement
Ability to analyze/measure performance / financial data.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Degree in business, health management or related field
5+ yrs. successful product development, management, operations and / or strategic marketing experience developing and / or managing multiple products and services
Expertise in using competitive intelligence effectively, market research and voice of the customer to drive strategic product plans, including sales forecasting and execution
Experience in working directly with customers, consumers and / or broker / consultants to assess requirements and share insights / new developments
Strong leadership, communication and negotiations skills
Demonstrated success meeting and driving goals / targets - experience working at or with regional leadership
Demonstrated ability to manage products, people and prioritize deliverables within a large matrix organization
Preferred Qualifications:
