Overview

Facilitates the flow of cases in the operating rooms by pulling case carts with supplies, instruments, and equipment needed for each case; cleaning rooms in between cases; keeping items in the department organized and stocked, and assisting with other turnover functions including gathering equipment as directed Some patient transporting responsibility. Performs all instrument reprocessing and handling duties. Performs QA and other functions as needed.

Responsibilities:

1 Performs cleaning duties to facilitate the flow of cases.Follows universal precautions. Performs cleaning duties in operating rooms, turnover cleans, and total cleans as needed. Preps housekeeping carts on arrival in morning. Cleans any room left down from night before. Watches electronic status board in order to be immediately available to the room coming down. Communicates with the OR Charge

nurse and the Circulating Nurse in the rooms so as to prioritize cleaning when multiple rooms come down simultaneously.

2 Pulls cases according to protocol. Plans ahead for current and future needs. Using preference cards and following case cart pulling protocol, pulls cases for current day and next day. Notifies buyer if items need ordering. Communicates instrument needs with Central Sterile department. Watches current and next day's schedule to identify equipment, instruments, and supplies needed. Monitors schedule electronically.

Communicates needs with Charge nurse or Surgery Business Manager if unable to procure needed items. Self directed in having needed items ready for cases

3 Maintains organization within the surgery department. Puts away equipment, supplies, and instruments. Organizes and stocks sub sterile rooms and dirty utility room.

5 Performs QA functions as needed.Performs daily Trauma Cart and emergency cart checks and maintenance. runs daily biological and DARTs on steam, paracetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers. Maintains flash logs in conjunction with infection control nurse. Notifies Charge nurse and /or Surgery Business Manager of equiment needing repair and enters tickets as directed.

6 Transports patients and lab specimens as assigned. Transports patients and assists in PACU as directed by Charge Nurse. Transports blood and speciments to lab.

7 Assists in instrument reprocessing and handling to facilitate in turnovers in accordance with level of knowledge and competence. Follows AAMI and State Health standards.

8 Stocks supplies as assigned.

Licensure:

Experience: One year helath care experience preferred

Certifications: Current BLS Certification.

Other: Basic computer proficiency. Excellent communication skills, English profieciency. Able to interpret surgical information as presented on printed preference cards or electronically.

Preferred Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Experience: One (1) year of work experience in the Operating Room
