Responsibilities:

Perform duties assigned by the Director of Pharmacy in support of the department policies and procedures that will ensure quality healthcare delivery to patients Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols within specified time frames. a. Must maintain current Oklahoma Certification. b. Fills Physician orders, medication surgical kits, medication requisitions, and specialty items/bins accurately. c. Identifies and fills replacement medications on emergency crash carts, OR Omnicells, and Omnciell floor units accurately. d. Prepares sterile products (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition), as allowed by law, accurately. Law states single ingredient transfers only without National certification. e. Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately. f. Provide 2-3 operational or procedural process improvements annually. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures, and protocols and within specified time frame. a. Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations. b. Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date. c. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs. d. Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas. e. Prepackages medications in unit of use containers. Contributes to the effective operation of the department. a. Participate in monthly staff meetings or read meeting minutes 90% of the time. b. Compliance with all Federal, State, and local government agencies laws, regulations, and directives pertaining to pharmacy practice settings in the Mercy Health System including State Board of Health, DEA, OBNDD, and OSHA. c. Responsibility for hourly medication deliveries, morning order delivery, and all subsequent restocks as necessary. d. Picking and bagging all medications produced by pharmacy order entry via regular monitoring of unit dose and IV label printers. e. Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds. f. Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately. g. Answers window requests and makes STAT deliveries to patient care areas when requested. h. Organizes and prioritizes work assignments. i. Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files in appropriate locations. j. Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean. Interact with pharmacy co-workers and all Mercy co-workers to assure the integration of the departmental services with the organization's primary functions, to assist and support, coordinate, and to integrate services within the department of pharmacy in a harmonious, respectful, courteous, and polite manner. a. Process pharmacy medication orders for patients, Omnicell refill, floor stock, and other departmental needs to be verified by a clinical pharmacist. b. Deliver medication, collect documentation and patient charging information, complete departmental charging, and restock medication areas. c. Compound (sterile & non-sterile), repackage, prepare, reconstitute, mix single medication products, and label medications for verification by a clinical pharmacist. Perform duties as outlined by "Shift duty" as directed by the supervisor of the area. d.Answer all incoming telephone calls, provide general information, direct calls for drug information, patient specific information, or new drug orders to a clinical pharmacist. e.Perform monthly inspections of medication stocked areas in the health system, record findings in HealthProLink Unit Stock module, and report deficiencies to the supervisor for areas assigned. f. Attend pharmacy staff meetings, programs, in-services, and meetings called for information purposes at least 90% attendance unless working night shift or on weekends only at which time notation on "Reader File" will be made. Perform secondary duties as assigned by the Supervisor which contribute to the overall mission and vision of the effective operation of the Department of Pharmacy. a. professional manner. b. Contribute to Inventory and Formulary control by providing suggestions as to consolidation or duplication of inventory. c. Be capable of loading medications into Omnicell and create bar codes using WASP software. Familiarity with Euclid repackage and knowledge of how to repackage controlled and non-controlled substances. Competent general knowledge of Bridge, Meditech, and Omnicell. e. Supports other TECHNICIAN/CLERICAL personnel on shift. f. Serve as the liaison and channel of communication between the Director of Pharmacy, the pharmacy staff, and other hospital departments. g. Assists with evaluation of current pharmacy practice and care delivery to identify opportunities to improve quality, appropriateness and efficiency of care and to ensure uniformity in the performance of patient care processes. h. Serve the health education needs of the community by participation in health screenings, special health events, support groups, presentations or other health related endeavors Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. a. Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with age including physical, psycho/social, cultural, safety, and other age related factors. b. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs. IV technician specific requirements Basic purpose: Perform duties assigned by the Director of Pharmacy to ensure quality sterile products are made and distributed from the pharmacy IV room according to local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Omnicell administrator specific requirements Basic purpose: To assist the pharmacists in performing all pharmacy functions as Pharmacy Technician II in accordance with the Oklahoma Pharmacy Laws and Regulations Handbook. The Omnicell administrator will actively interact with hospital staff on a skill level appropriate to the certification and must be able to coordinate & administer systems of inventory and CS control. A major primary responsibility to be competent to perform any task or duty assigned to any Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician II shall be understood. Special competency training will be required in the areas of (1) General Dispensing-Order Entry, (2) Omnicell service support/operation/stocking (3) Controlled Substance records and dispensing through the Secure Vault System, (4) OR/ICU dispensing, charging and support, (5) Decentralized services. Direct responsibility will be assigned for the accountability, ordering, management, security, updating, and compliance record keeping and hospital policy and procedure requirements for all Controlled Substances (classes II through V) as directed by Federal, State, and Hospital regulations. Direct responsibility to apply the Omnicell system to the control of the Controlled Substances as well as having a direct responsibility to review, program, and maintenance of program needs for the automated dispensing units (Omnicell ) located through the hospital. To serve as a liaison with the service vendor accountable for the operation and up keep of the physical units. The Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist in all dispensing duties, order entry, crediting and billing, all parenteral/non-parenteral mixing duties, clinical programs support and monitoring, ID of Home Medications, and assume limited non-patient orientated judgment responsibility on a daily basis as appropriate. Priorities will include assuring the standards of pharmacy practice and quality patient care are maintained within the guidelines and practice standards of the practice of Pharmacy in the State of Oklahoma. All duties will be performed with accord to the mission, vision, and values of Mercy.

Perform duties assigned by the Director of Pharmacy to ensure appropriate management of Omnicell and controlled substance drug inventory according to local, state, and federal laws and regulations. a. Perform Omnicell loads and destocks daily. b. Adjust machine specific par levels weekly. c. Supervises out-of-date removals d. Programs restock times e. Audits records to track diversion. f. Maintains Omnicell database and configuration of machines.

* Resolves and monitors all narcotic discrepancies. h. Tracks override rates for units. i. Takes all Omnicell related calls j. Add and remove Omnicell users k. Optimize and configure all Omnicell machines Indigent Drug Recovery specialist specific requirements Basic purpose: To direct all activities pertaining to the Indigent Drug Recovery program ensuring that all possible recoveries are processed.

Principal responsibilities: Perform duties assigned by the Director of Pharmacy to ensure appropriate management of the Indigent Drug Recovery program according to local, state, and federal laws and regulations. a. Research all potential indigent patients and corresponding viable recovery programs. b. Complete all required recovery forms and attain necessary signatures. c. Deliver all completed applications for free drug products to their intended company for processing. d. Follow-up with program managers to ensure proper reimbursement. c. Build relationships with recovery programs, nurses, physicians, and social workers to facilitate successful drug recovery. Responsible for utilizing the Institute of Medicine's "6 Quality Improvement Aims" as an organized approach to creating service excellence in care/services (Safe, Timely, Efficient, Effective, Equitable, and Patient Centered).

* High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

* One year hospital experience or equivalent training preferred

* Trained in general use of Pharmacy computers

* Basic college credits desirable

Certifications:
