About this job

A great number of our food products come from animals. Therefore, the front line in providing quality food to our Soldiers is provided by the Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist.

Meats, poultry, eggs, and dairy are produced by animals and need to meet strict standards before they can be prepared and served to Soldiers. As an important member of the veterinary service team, the Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist, under the direction of a Veterinary Corps Officer, inspects food designed for human consumption, while also supervising inspection and veterinary service activities.

You'll be able to use your Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist experience to prepare for a future with the Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, or the U.S. Department of Commerce. A career as a city health inspector, quality assurance auditor at a manufacturing plant, a seafood inspector, poultry and shell eggs inspector, and a fresh fruits and vegetable grader may also be options available to you.

Earn while you learn
Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to train. In the Army National Guard, you will learn these valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance.
