Responsible for primary clinical roles in Specialty pharmacy; responsible for the correct dispensing of medication and literature as well as counseling and information for patients and providers.  
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Supports inherent leadership and supervisory role for technicians and non - clinical employees
Demonstrates competence in patient management, fulfillment, and clinical areas
Performs Clinical review of prescription orders for basic appropriateness of therapy or plan specific criteria review i.e., Prior Authorization
Verifies patient orders for completeness and accuracy before being sent to fulfillment i.e., prospective DUR including allergies, interactions, contraindications, etc.
Verifies data entry of all prescriptions entered into the pharmacy system by pharmacy technicians
Counsels patients according to OBRA 90 standards and answers patient questions about medications; both phone in and walk - in patients
Accepts physician calls for new prescriptions or questions about our services or Specialty medications
Effectively utilizes clinical tools
Assists non - clinical employees by answering questions related to medication therapies
Triages work flow in and between all areas, along with and if necessary in the absence of management
Transfers prescriptions in and out and to other pharmacies as appropriate
Performs Quality Assurance final verification of medications, information, and supplies, ensuring accuracy of patient order contents prior to dispense
Supervises and educates pharmacy technicians ensuring Continuous Quality Improvement
Assumes role as a Pharmacist In Charge, if necessary
Fully participates in the pharmacist rotation for on - call
Maintains applicable pharmacist licensure(s) including necessary Continuing Education requirements, without lapse (any lapse excludes pharmacist from practicing pharmacy)
May need to obtain additional state Pharmacist licensure(s) as required
Leads special projects as assigned
Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice

Requirements


Required Qualifications:

BS in Pharmacy
Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of Maine
1 year of specialty, community, retail, hospital, or long term care pharmacy experience
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook
Ability to travel overnight occasionally
Preferred Qualifications:

PharmD degree
PBM experience
Retail pharmacy experience
Presentation, facilitation and / or training experience a plus
