ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Charge Entry
* Data entering of daily office charges.
* Applying patient payments made at the time of service to the charge items as needed and not applied by payment poster.
* Verify that all charges have been received against the appointment list.
* Research any missing superbills and take appropriate action to enter missing charges.

Payment Posting
* Daily posting of any patient collected money via phone or mail when applicable.
* Daily reconciliation of payment batch to deposit.
* Write up refund request if a credit balance is generated from their payment posting or if they cannot post the payment against any open charges.

Insurance Claim Follow-up
* Identify and resolve unpaid claims for your assigned carriers that are more than 30 days overdue.
o Resolve denied/unpaid claims that fall within timely filing deadlines first.
o Resolve highest dollar amount claims in the 90 day and further overdue categories second.
o Resolve the remaining denied/unpaid claims beginning with your largest carrier first.
* Document all worked claims in note section of the system.
* When appropriate, prepare and submit appeal letters with supporting documentation for approval to your supervisor (or assigned staff member):
o 1st Level Appeal - File request for review with carrier
o 2nd Level - File for Fair Hearing




Other

* Follow all current and proceeding policies and procedures for the department.
* File all billing paperwork appropriately.
* Assist as needed in other areas of the Business office, including but not limited to, answering telephones.
* Cross train on most functions or the Business Office as needed to support workflow and best practices.
* Attend meetings and actively participate in topics of discussion.
* Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
