Summary: Assists supervisor in a variety of functions. Inspects and repairs lawns. Coordinates maintenance of ornamental landscapes. Schedules, directs and monitors gardener activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans, plants and cultivates lawns using gardening implements and power-operated equipment.
  • Inspects and repairs lawns using seed mixtures and fertilizers recommended for particular soil types.
  • Coordinates proper maintenance of ornamental landscapes, including lawns, small trees, groundcovers, shrubs and annual/perennial color displays.
  • Performs weed abatement and other grounds-related functions as needed.
  • Locates and plants shrubs, trees and flowers selected or recommended for particular landscape effect.
  • Trims shrubs and cultivates gardens; cleans grounds using rakes, brooms and hoses.
  • Sprays trees and shrubs; applies supplemental liquid and dry nutrients to lawn and trees.
  • Orders plant materials, supplies and seeds.
  • Digs trenches and installs drain tiles.
  • Repairs concrete and asphalt walks and driveways.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Schedules, directs and monitors gardener activities; provides feedback on work processes, safety and quality of work.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Follows standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects; follows all safety protocol.
  • Maintains records for all work or services performed, including rigid records for pesticide applications.
  • Assists with completion and submittal of weekly tool, equipment and vehicle maintenance reports.
  • Deploys for emergency response due to inclement weather, i.e. snow and ice, tornado or other crisis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in grounds management or demonstration of consistently superior performance.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 25 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop for extended periods of time.


Working Conditions: Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers, pollen producing environment, paint and petroleum products. Work time expectation: 90% of time will be physical labor, 10% training and misc.
