We are seeking an International Trade Compliance Manager to join our team. At Daktronics, the role of Trade Compliance is seen as a strategic business partner and this individual role is key in working with our entire global supply-chain stakeholders. This role will be responsible for strategically aligning and executing international logistics with mitigating risk backed by a commitment to global regulatory compliance within import/export and trade compliance in all countries we do business. This position will work with a wide range of groups within the organization from senior management, sales and purchasing professionals, engineers, operations, finance professionals, service and external customers upholding compliance policies as well as providing training and education on the current and changing regulatory environments.

 

You will be responsible for managing import/export, international logistic and compliance operations which includes:

  • Collaboratively developing a yearly strategic plan for trade compliance and logistic areas in alignment with Daktronics management’s goals and initiatives.
  • Communicating and advising company management on initiatives, objectives, and associated risks of trade compliance and logistics areas regularly.
  • Classifying and valuing products in accordance with global customs regulations.
  • Managing the completion of various filings for specific country regulations and various audits and governmental inquires.
  • Serving as an in-house expert/consultant to company personnel on import/export matters, providing technical assistance, training materials, and delivering training on relevant laws, regulations and company policies/procedures.
  • Maintaining and updating Daktronics’ Global Trade Compliance Policies and Manuals.
  • Continuously learning and staying current on global customs regulations applicable in other countries relevant to Daktronics’ operations, tracking such regulations communicating timely across the organization.
  • Supervising the international logistics coordination function with continual training, coaching and empowering staff members to drive compliance with continuous improvements to policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with sourcing department to select, evaluate, and manage logistic vendors and global customs brokers while analyzing best methods and practices for Air vs. Ocean freight and proper bookings, timelines and deadlines.
  • Project Management - participating in development, implementation and enforcement of assigned complex tasks (e.g. definition of new processes, implementation of new export control tools, knowledge management) or lead supply chain related projects as required.

 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree: International Trade/Business, Finance, Supply-Chain Management, or related field.
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience conducting accurate product Classifications, Valuation, Country of Origin/Marking, Recordkeeping & interpreting Customs regulations, private letter ruling and binding tariff information rulings.  
  • Experience working directly with US import and export regulations, including: ECCN, governmental supply chain security, Buy America programs, etc.
  • Experience with importing/exporting, logistics, knowledge of international trade law regulations, supply chain operations, and the global trade compliance network to apply laws to trade procedures.
  • Regional knowledge of global Free Trade Agreements (FTA’s) and ability to use and apply to Daktronics’ products across geographic locations
  • Broad supply chain management knowledge of order administration, mfg., planning, logistics, spare parts and returns common practices, theories, and related industry/technology trends
  • Customs Brokerage License preferred
  • Prior supervision of staff preferred

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Other languages a plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to establish effective relationships with all levels of management and employees.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to be flexible and work analytically in a problem-solving environment, manage large projects and drive to conclusion.
  • Ability to understand technical product features and functionalities and determine the related export or import requirements.
  • Business software skills, including databases, spreadsheets, and website applications.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed. Must be able to obtain the appropriate visas if necessary to travel internationally.
  • Must be able to meet the Daktronics Qualified driver definition. Motor Vehicle Records will be checked.
