Chemist

Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking a Chemist for an 8 month opportunity in Atlanta, GA with our partner, the world’s largest nonprofit research and development organization.

Primary job responsibilities

• Analysis on a variety of tobacco or related samples using advanced analytical equipment (e.g. HPLC/MS, GC/MS etc.) including but not limited constituents such as:
  • Tar, Nicotine, & Carbon Monoxide - Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
  • Carcinogenic Aromatic Amines - Minor Alkaloids
  • Carcinogenic Volatile Tobacco Specific Nitrosamines
  • Carcinogenic Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH)
  • Solanesol in cigarette filters
• Perform standard assays in a production mode.
• Qualifying or modifying existing analytical methods.
• Conducting qualitative and quantitative measurements and analyzing data.
• Writing up findings for reports or peer reviewed publication.
• Adhering to the universal precautions with regard to the handling of biological samples and biological waste.
• Adhering to CDC/NCEH/DLS and CLIA 88 guidelines with regard to laboratory protocols and quality control.
• Adhering to the CDC/NCEH/DLS policy of treating all data as confidential.
• Adhering to the CDC/NCEH/DLS and Battelle policy of laboratory safety and security.

Minimum Requirements

• BS in Chemistry or related science with 0-3 yrs experience.
• Technical knowledge and experience with analytical procedures and instrumentation such
• as chromatography, mass spectrometry
• Proficiency in the use of EXCEL, WORD, and PowerPoint software.
• Excellent at being meticulous, detail-oriented, neat and organized.
• Excellent at keeping records.
• Excellent written and verbal skills, ability to work well with a team.

Additional Consideration Given to Candidates Experienced with:

• Automated Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)
• Liquid Chromatography and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry instrumentation LC/MS)
• Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS).
• Familiar with CLIA regulation, or other ISO, GLP guidelines.
