Purpose Statement:

 

The Grooming Salon Academy Instructor position is responsible for training Petco partners in the art of pet Styling, delivering all program offerings and maintaining operational standards within their academy. Be the primary resource and leader in their academy regarding Petco's Pet Styling Training Program. Consequently be responsible for maintaining pet parent relationships, while educating and engaging all store partners.

 

The Grooming Salon Academy Instructor in partnership with the Grooming Salon Manager & General Manger must ensure current customer basis to be able to support the PSA's (Pet Stylist Apprentice) with the pets needed to learn and practice their skills.

 

Partner with District Manager and Director of Pet Services in providing Pet Styling Training education and support within the district. Partner with General Managers, District Manager and Director of Pet Services in identifying talent to ensure home store and market success.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for training Pet Stylists Apprentices through successful and timely completion of Petco's Pet Stylist Training Program and methodology. Provide training, guidance and leadership in developing and certifying current Petco partners into Pet Stylists. 

 

Provide pet parents with exceptional customer service by acting as a subject matter expert inproducts, services, in-store and District promotions, to our canine pet friends and their pet parents. 

 

Ideally, the Grooming Salon Academy Instructor provides guidance, support, and encouragement, so the PSA responds positively by learning and applying the new skills and knowledge in ways that optimize success within the organization.

Essential Job Function: The incumbent must be able to consistently perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must promote Petco's Pet Stylist Training Program and ensure a safe training environment for PSA's and the pets.
  • Must be able to work and train multiple PSA's at one time along with keeping up with pet parents needs.
  • Promote, conduct and instruct all Pet Stylist Training curricula.
  • Committed to enhancing communication and teamwork between PSA's, other salon partners, management and pet parents.
  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all pet parents, store partners, and Field leaders regarding Pet Stylist or other pet services.
  • Encompass excellent listening skills and able to effectively coach in an encouraging and motivating way by delivering points efficiently and easily. Ability to influence without authority.
  • Maintain and update provided class-related materials with the PSA in a timely manner.
  • Support the PSA on registering and preparing for all tests and assignments.
  • Maintain and have available all Pet Stylist tools as defined in Grooming Operations Policy (such as clippers, blades, scissors) for PSA's to use when in your salon.
  • Be familiar with all existing and new products and services in order to be able to train PSA's and engage with customers regarding new product and services features and benefits.
  • Maintain proper records and updates to field leaders, VPRO, Director Pet Services & DM to complete the PSA in a timely manner.

Work Environment:

The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with our customers and their dogs and the remaining time will be with the PSA's and other salon partners.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED is generally preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Professional Pet Stylist required.
  • ISCC, IPG OR NDGAA certifications preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching Pet Stylist Training techniques in group or class settings
  • preferred.
