The Director, Internal Communications will develop and execute on high-impact programs that inform and educate UnitedHealth Group employees on Human Capital programs and reinforce UnitedHealth Group's employee value proposition.
 
The Director, Internal Communications will be responsible for creating and executing broad-based and stakeholder-specific engagement programs and messaging. This position will interface extensively with leadership in Human Capital and the businesses to support their priorities for human capital programs and employee engagement. This professional will also be an important member of - and key collaborator with the broader UnitedHealth Group internal and corporate communications teams, and will actively work with partners in Human Capital and leaders in Corporate Communications to ensure Human Capital-focused communications are closely and consistently aligned with communication across the enterprise.
 
The individual must have a strong interest in and understanding of human capital programs and a proven track record in engaging employees in human capital programs. Reporting to and working closely with the VP of Internal Communications, s / he will serve a broad range of internal clients, including senior executives, providing consistently high levels of proactive engagement, strategic thinking and execution. S / he will also have important team leadership and mentorship responsibilities, ensuring that team members are consistently equipped with the direction, information, resources and experienced partnership they need to succeed.

Primary Responsibilities:

Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with Human Capital leadership and peers, and Corporate Communications colleagues, and quickly become established as a 'go-to' partner for communications strategy and execution that delivers on the short and long-term goals of partners in Human Capital and the enterprise
Develop and execute strong communications plans and programs that help meet Human Capital's goals and objectives
Work closely with Human Capital, Corporate Communications and business leaders to ensure strong, consistent messaging that strengthens employee engagement and understanding of employee value proposition. Work closely with UnitedHealth Group?s VP internal communications, as well as internal communicators across enterprise, to plan, resource and execute on these needs most effectively
Collaborate with Communications team leaders in the ongoing development of messaging that will resonate with employees while supporting Human Capital goals
Support development and enforcement of best practices for sourcing, interfacing with and communicating with external communication partners and vendors
Nurture, coach and help communication team members advance their career objectives at UnitedHealth Group
Responsible for the development and execution of the clinical alignment and clinical toolbox communication and change management strategies
Develops communication and change management artifacts
Works with the program teams and segment change management leads to ensure consistent change management methodologies and communications
Develop and maintain the clinical toolbox and clinical alignment programs change management and communication strategies
Develops and implements strategic plans for enterprise clinical alignment communications
Document change impacts for clinical alignment / toolbox programs across segments and functions
Identify end to end deployment roadmaps and interdependencies
Understand the development of the program plan initiatives to enable deployment and change management
Facilitates segment adoption, understands issues, reviews plans
Develop and maintain the clinical toolbox and clinical alignment programs change management and communication strategies
Owns the Toolbox Change Management Program
Support / facilitate Change Management within the clinical programs
Own the Change Management program artifacts and communication
Drives the strategy for and maintains the clinical intranet site
Provide strategic communication and change management leadership to the enterprise clinical team and at senior levels of the organization
Understanding of overall current and future company priorities, focus and politics as influences for business solutions alignment
Participates in clinical toolbox strategic reviews
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with both internal and external customers
Works with the Senior Leadership team to gain approval for communications and change management programs
Provides training, mentoring and coaching where appropriate
Provides leadership, especially during change management initiatives
Plans and organizes special projects in concert with Senior Management
 

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

10+ years of experience in corporate communications with particular expertise in employee communication
Demonstrated experience in managing large, complex, multimedia projects
Experience managing staff
Excellent writing and oral communication skills, ability to persuade and build consensus with internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated experience building effective relationships with and counseling senior management and navigating complex, demanding internal or external client relationships
Proven experience in developing and managing execution of highly motivating, successful internal / employee engagement campaigns
Proven track record of effectively directing and supervising internal teams, outside agencies and consultants
A strategic thinker with broad perspective, and at the same time have acute attention to detail
An outstanding writer and editor, with the ability to clearly communicate ideas and concepts in written materials, and an uncompromising eye for quality (Writing samples required)
Ability to effectively process and understand complex situations and technical subjects, and translate them clearly in layperson's terms
Highly motivated, an outstanding personal communicator, with exceptional campaign management and strategic planning skills
The knowledge, intellect and temperament to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; bring a 'roll up your sleeves' perspective to this job, which requires both strong strategic capabilities and the ability to execute on the most fundamental responsibilities of the discipline
Embrace and thrive on change, with an ability to continually adapt and take on new challenges in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Be creative and flexible, with a high level of commitment and energy to take on a complex, challenging situation in a dynamic, rapidly growing organization
Strong analytical skills, and ability to quickly convert insight to action
Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Human Capital / HR communication experience
