About this job

Nurse Techs assist nurses in the care of patients by doing or assisting the patient in the routine activities of daily living. They help keep patients comfortable and tend to their basic needs. Tasks include assisting with meals as needed, answering call lights when patients signal for help, patient positioning, toileting, make beds, give baths and massages, and fill water pitchers and ice bags. They may also perform routine tests, such as taking a patient's temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, pulse oximetry and accucheck, for which they have competencies documented. Education: High school diploma/GED required. Currently enrolled in a school of nursing. Orientation and training will be provided that is specific to the unit until able to function independently and demonstrates proficiency in basic skills. Licenses/Certificates: Nurse Techs have no licensure/certificate required as long as currently enrolled in Texas. Current BCLS certification or obtained during the first week of orientation. Experience: Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, but orientation will be provided on the job.
