Responsibilities: Responsible for guiding waste through the incineration process. This includes monitoring the control panel to ensure proper combustion while looking for problems and ensuring waste flows smoothly through the entire incineration process. Operates front end loader to stage trash for the receiving conveyors and to clear the unloading area for the trash trucks. Operates articulating clams to keep trash pits flowing. Performs ongoing checks on all systems using the computer operating system. Adjusts charge rate to achieve efficient combustion to comply with USEPA and MPCA guidelines. Alerts Operators of situations in need of attention and assists Operator in remedy of problems. Performs record keeping on ash roll-offs, waste deliveries, circular charts, bar code deliveries, regulated waste deliveries and daily log book. Operates fork lift to dump ash and unload deliveries. Loads and monitors the pathological incinerator. Attends on and off site training for new equipment, MPCA certification, electrical, safety and permit changes. Sanitizes waste carts, ensuring at least one load of sanitized carts is ready to return to the Clinic campus at all times. Helps Incinerator Operators complete major and/or emergency repairs. Requires the ability to work rotating shifts and overtime, as needed, including some weekends.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to operate powered and un-powered hand tools. Must be able to operate a fork lift, bobcat, front-end loader, articulating arm, floor scrubber and floor sweeper. Requires general computer operating ability.
Additional Qualifications: Completion of Building Utility Mechanic program strongly encouraged. Experience repairing and maintaining electrical equipment and 3-phase motors preferred. Electrical license holders desired. Experience handling regulated medical waste preferred.
License or Certification: Must have or be able to obtain a Minnesota 2nd Class B Engineer License within 1 1/2 years of hire.
Must have or be able to obtain a Minnesota Waste Combustor Operator certificate within 3 years of hire.
Must have or be able to acquire CPR certification within 6 months of hire.

Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $18.28 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Monday through Friday, rotating every 5 weeks, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, 12:00 am to 8:00 am.
Weekend Schedule: Most weekends are off. Scheduled overtime is every 3 months, occasionally more often. On-call every 7 to 10 weeks.
