JOB SUMMARY:
This job is responsible for planning, supervising and evaluating the daily operations in the assigned inpatient pharmacy facility to provide pharmaceutical care activities and services in accordance with, established policies, procedures, standards and regulatory requirements. An incumbent ensures the provision of professional, effective, efficient, safe, and accurate medication distribution practices. Work also includes: 1) responsibility for meeting financial objectives in labor, revenue and gross margins; 2) evaluating department effectiveness; 3) ensuring optimum staffing levels; 4) overseeing the workflow of subordinate staff, 5) meeting regulatory requirements and standards and 6) performing all technical department activities, as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plans and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the department to meet the financial objectives in labor, revenue and gross margins.
* Oversees daily workload and ensures the department is adequately and appropriately staffed.
* Monitors labor budget/expenses, identifies variances and takes corrective action to remedy within designated scope of authority.
* Develops, in conjunction with manager, programs, policies and procedures to maximize pharmacy usage and enhance customer service.
* Ensures inventory control measures are being followed in accordance with department standards.
* Ensures staff are compliant with policies and procedures.
* May serve as the Pharmacy representative in management, administrative and/or interdisciplinary meetings.
* Handles customer service/provider complaints.
Coordinates and oversees technical aspects related to compounding and dispensing of drugs in accordance with medication orders issued by authorized medical care providers.
* Ensures the timely distribution of medications.
* Oversees technical workflows and works with staff to create efficiencies
Supervises, instructs and mentors pharmacy technical staff, interns, residents, externs, students, technicians and non-pharmacy staff in the execution of duties and ensures adherence to FHS policies and procedures in a positive, constructive and motivating manner.
* Promotes education and development of team members.
* Orients employees and holds regular staff meetings to keep employees apprised of all matters relevant to successful job performance.
* Assists employees with complex/unprecedented/ambiguous matters, reviews elevated issues/situations and takes action consistent with assigned scope of authority.
* Approves timecards; communicates performance standards and evaluates employee performance; counsels employees, and provides constructive feedback; develops additional mentors/preceptors from the specialty pharmacy team.
Participates in the development and administration of the annual department budget.
* Identifies financial objectives relating to labor, revenue and gross margins and implements tactics for achieving them; takes appropriate action to address and resolve variances.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Work Experience
Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program, from a bachelor degree program in a related field, and three years of hospital or related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
* Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy.
* Bachelor's degree in a healthcare or leadership related field.
* Current healthcare provider BLS certification is required.
