Job Summary

The Health Information Management Coding Supervisor supports the vision of the Total Healing Environment and the values of respect, integrity, accountability, commitment and quality by providing direction, leadership and support to ensure the smooth daily operations of the coding section of the Health Information Management department. Serves as the primary resource to the coding team and ensures timely and accurate coding of all inpatient and outpatient records.

Job Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field
  • Previous coding experience and thorough knowledge of inpatient and outpatient coding practices
  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification
  • Cerner Millenium application experience
  • Advanced proficiency with electronic spreadsheets, including MS Excel

 Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related field; equivalent experience and/or education may be considered
  • Two years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Highly skilled in coding compliance requirements
  • Current certification as a RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator); equivalent healthcare certification/licensure may be considered
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist-AHIMA) within six months of hire 
  • Active member of AHIMA within six months of hire
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and supervisory skills with a demonstrated ability in performance management, coaching, and staff development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with physicians and other staff providing excellent customer service
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities/tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
