DESCRIPTION A senior technical support laboratory position associated with the sample container preparation/packaging and sample intake activities of the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory. Assists other support staff as needed to assure that sufficient numbers and types of sample containers are accurately packaged and that sufficient numbers and types of sample containers are accurately prepared in advance to meet requirements and demands. Monitors laboratory support functions relevant to packaging and shipping sample containers where necessary and assure that supplies are available to meet normal routine workload requirements as well as emergencies. Assure that adequate preservatives are available for packaging to expedite the processing of requests. Maintains accurate record keeping assuring compliance with rules and regulations including data entry relevant to packaging and shipping of sample containers. Assists with and performs other related duties as required. Develops, evaluates, recommends, and implements new procedures. Maintains good housekeeping within the unit to assure safety in the work area. Receives telephone and email requests from customers and ensure that they are communicated to the proper personnel for processing. EXAMPLES OF WORK Assists in the evaluation studies of basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, taxonomy and functions. Under supervision, collects and analyzes biological specimens and data. Under supervision, conducts physical, chemical or microbiological analyses and tests Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, places orders and processes receipt of items Under supervision, performs conservation laboratory procedures and records and analyzes artifact data. Performs work as a certified as a diver using scuba apparatus. Studies reactions of plants, animals, and physical materials in the laboratory. Develops methods, prepares equipment and conducts laboratory procedures. Evaluates and reports test results. Receives, records, prepares and/or preserves specimens or samples for testing or evaluation. Assures compliance with chain of custody requirements.
