Summary

 

Ability to read and understand a customer job traveler, ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, prepare and install computer control programs for machining centers, selects, inspects and installs proper tooling, and operates computer controlled machining centers in a safe productive teamwork environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

Develops and follows scheduled maintenance plans for all machines

Reads and understands customer work orders/purchase orders

 

Follows work instructions to comply with company certification/ISO registration needs

 

Maintains accurate production history for customer requirements

 

Individually inspects each product for quality conformity prior to quality control inspection

 

Must be able to perform at company proficiency rate

 

Maintains inventory for regularly used professional tooling and places parts order upon supervisor approval

Must be able to check calibration, read and use digital calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and other measurements tools as needed

 

Machinist must provide basic personal measurement instruments, (calipers, micrometers, rule, etc.)

 

Must be able to read, comprehend and understand mechanical blueprints

 

Machinist must be cross trained on all metal fabrication equipment, (lathe, mill, CNC machining/turning center)

 

Machinist must be able to operated conventional lathe, and knee mill

 

Machinist must be able to scan on and off jobs efficiently using bar coding wand

 

Tool and die experience a plus

 

Recognize when machine tooling needs sharpening or replacement

 

May be required to continue education by attending training seminars

 

Works effectively with immediate supervisor to maximize productivity and minimize waste

 

Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained

 

Report any unfixable/unsafe issues to supervisor

 

Enforce lock out/tag out procedures as required

 

Observes and enforces all safety rules in an effort to reduce accidents and injuries

 

Operates appropriate material handling equipment, such as forklifts and crane, in a safe and orderly manner in and effort to reduce accidents and injuries

 

Ensures that material handling equipment is maintained (daily inspection) and clean; reports repair or service needs to supervisor in an effort to reduce equipment damage and ensure safety for all employees

 

Understands and complies with applicable company policies (i.e. attendance, Code of Business Conduct & Ethics, Company Handbook etc.)

 

Machinist complies with all applicable State/Federal laws, regulations and policies (i.e. OSHA, DOL, EPA, etc.)

 

Maintains accurate record of production

 

Keeps work area safe, productive and clean

 

Demonstrates respect for all employees

 

Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age

Must be able to read mechanical blue prints

Education and experience

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Related CNC Machining training or experience preferred

Or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

 

Language skills

 

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English

Ability to write correspondence in English

Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations in English

 

Mathematical skills

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. 

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent

Ability to read and understand decimals

Ability to use conversion charts

Ability to read and understand metric measurements

Ability to read and understand geometric tolerances

 

Reasoning ability

 

Must possess good communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills and effectively interact with several different personalities and levels of people

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

 

Machining certificate preferred
