The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the provision of nursing care for assigned patients in all phases of care. He/she is responsible for prescribing nursing interventions, and coordination of patient activities, and delegation of the aspects of are that are provided by others. The individual will demonstrate professional accountability through adherence to standards of nursing care and a commitment to act in an ethical manner. The RN provides care to patients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatrics. He/she will perform all duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Mercy Hospital Ardmore.

Position Qualifications:

* We require a nursing degree from an accredited school.

* You'll also need a current RN license in our state.

* Basic life support training should be completed in 90 days with advanced training required at certain intervals.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Assesses the condition of patient and/or significant other in a timely, consistent and

systematic manner.

1. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as

per policy.

2. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain

management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management

3. Utilizes other appropriate health care staff members in data gathering.

4. Includes information obtained from the patient and/or significant others in the

assessment.

5. Assesses and appropriately documents the educational needs and learning abilities

of the patient and/or significant others during the admission and subsequent

assessments.

6. Communicates subjective and objective data about the patient/family and/or

significant others with appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team.

Develops an outcome oriented plan of care that reflects the patients actual or potential

health problems.

1. Formulates plan of care. Involves patient and/or significant others in decisions

regarding care.

2. Assures that the plan of care includes identified problems, and/or nursing diagnosis,

nursing interventions, and goals/outcomes.

3. Assures that the plan of care is based on patients current problems, congruent with

the medical plan of care, and incorporates preventive, therapeutic, rehabilitative

palliative, and comfort nursing interventions.

4. Prioritizes care delivery according to the patients needs and unit activities.

5. Collaborates with other health care providers to revise the plan of care and

discharge plan.

6. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms understandable

to the patient, family and/or significant others.

7. Plans care based on knowledge of growth and development changes occurring

across the patients life-span.

Implements the plan of care to achieve the identified outcomes for the patient.

1. Provides professional holistic nursing care to an assigned group of patients

according to the prescribed plan of care.

2. Assists with and/or performs procedures.

3. Delegates tasks to LPNs and unlicensed health care provides according to their

documented competencies.

4. Provides patient/family education based on assessed needs including the safe use

of equipment used in treatment and/or health maintenance.

5. Demonstrates ability to provide care and information based upon physical,

psychosocial, cultural, safety and other age related factors for clients.

6. Demonstrates knowledge of medication administration based on the age of the

patient and his/her clinical condition.

7. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.

Evaluates effectiveness of service provided.

1. Evaluates patient, family/significant others response to care and/or education.

Assesses and documents progress towards achievement of outcomes.

2. Evaluates patient, family/significant others understanding of information provided or

skills taught.

3. Evaluates the effectiveness of discharge plans for meeting the needs for continuing

care.

4. Obtains data patient satisfaction.

Demonstrates effective and accurate verbal, written and electronic communication skills.

improvement reports, patient care documentation forms, and employee/patient incident

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based upon the

physical, psychosocial, educational, safety needs, and other related criteria appropriate

to the following age groups: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.

Remains compliant and up to date on all required certifications and mandatory educations.
