OBJECTIVE: The Maintenance Technicians and Specialist function in a team environment reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader with direct responsibilities to the Production Team Leader and Team. The incumbent functions as technical support to ensure a safe environment, producing safe-high quality product, in a timely manner, at the best cost possible. The incumbent is skilled at various levels in multiple disciplines.

Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary

* Total Process Ownership (TPO)- Partner responsible to maintain the manufacturing process and equipment in optimum condition. The integration of several process techniques focused on achieving high levels of overall process effectiveness.

* Team Skills: Partner responsible for fundamental understanding of team in development and active participation within a team environment through division and plant team orientation, safety and quality training.

* Depending on the Plant this may include the following:

* Level I Team Skills

SAFETY

* PERFORMS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

REPAIRS OR REPLACES:

* ELECTRICAL - fuses, lamps, breakers & switches including wiring controls and power circuits; uses standard brand of limit, micro switches, starters, and control devices

* WELDING - prepares surface, selects correct welding rod, cuts and welds [metals, stainless steel, copper pipe, silver solder and soft solder joints]

* ELECTRONICS -program a PLC

* MECHANCIS - replaces various shafts and bearings, filters, belts, chains, sprockets and sheaves [using instruction manuals and parts lists]; also maintains and repairs processing equipment, building equipment and refrigeration systems; set mechanical functions on various tracking conveyors

* PNEUMATIC - replace air cylinders, valves and pumps; also perform preventative maintenance

* HYDRAULIC - replace cylinders, valves and pumps and perform preventative maintenance (including 4-way valve, Vickers valve)

* BUILDING SYTEMS - repair plant equipment

INSTALLS:

* ELECTRICAL - conduits and voltage motors

* ELECTRONICS - 4-20 milliamp sensor circuits and calibrate

* MECHANICS - assist in the installation of new systems [including bearing]

OPERATES AT A PROFICIENT LEVEL:

* ELECTRICAL - meters, testing equipment, programmers and soldering tools [including voltmeters, amp meters, micrometers, meggers, test instrumentation, programmers, calipers and dial indicators]

* WELDING - set pressures on oxyacetylene equipment, arc welder, carbon arc welder, electrode welder and tig welder

* ELECTRONICS - computers [desktop programs] and appropriate tools [adjust set points and machine controls] including digital volt ohmmeter, hand held amp probe and held voltage tester, logic probes and CRT equipment

* MECHANICAL - shop equipment [grinders, drills, saws, threaders, lathe, mill, etc.]; can start-up processing equipment, building equipment and refrigeration systems

* HYDRAULIC - operate and set-up hydraulic pumps and 3-way piloted & 4-way valve systems

PERFORMS INSPECTIONS:

* ELECTRICAL - OSHA and plant and generates work orders for repairs of loose connections

* MECHANICS - monitors various system temperatures and pressures; also performs OSHA inspections for compliance with guards, cylinders and unsafe conditions

* PNEUMATIC - monitor system pressures and compare to standard (write up repair/rebuild order

* HYDRAULIC - monitor system pressures and compare to standard

* REFRIGERATION/HVAC - monitor system pressures and temperatures and compare to standard; inspects systems for leaks and monitors fluid levels including glycol levels proper ratios

APPLIES APPROPRIATE SAFETY MEASURES:

* ELECTRICAL - Applies proper lock-out tag-out on all electrical equipment

TROUBLESHOOTS:

* ELECTRICAL - all systems with or without schematics; and photoelectric sensing equipment

* ELECTRONICS - control power or programmingfault; modicon or Allen-Bradley PLC; P.I.D. control devices

* MECHANICS - Identify problems with gearboxes, pumps, valves and other basic components in the system including vacuum conveyor system

* PNEUMATIC - systems

* HYDRAULIC - systems (hydraulic pump, receiver tank and proper pressure settings

* REFRIGERATION/HVAC - troubleshoots refrigeration systems; can isolate problems (includes ammonia, glycol and freon systems)

* BUILDING SYSTEMS - uses forklift and pallet jack manuals to troubleshoot plant equipment; troubleshoot low temperatures and/or low pressures in the hot water systems as well as lost power and isolate problem

READS:

* ELECTRICAL - blueprints

* WELDING - blueprints

* MECHANICS - blueprints

DRAW/DESIGN:

* MECHANICS - designs blueprints to repair, modify and construction and make process changes

* PNEUMATIC - makes changes to system design

* HYDRAULIC - makes change to system design

Education and Experience preferred

* High School Diploma Required

* Possess a high industrial plant, mechanical or electrical aptitude and abilities with a superb working knowledge of all aspects of the plant equipment maintenance operation including equipment troubleshooting, electrical, refrigeration, machine shop operation, welding, brazing soldering, etc.

* The Incumbent must possess sufficient skills, experience and abilities to completely disassemble process equipment, and repair or improve and reassembled for use.

* (Equipment Operated) The position requires proficient and effective use of voltmeters, ammeters, meggers, calipers, dial indicators, refrigeration test instrument micrometers, electronic test equipment including programmers, machinist equipment and tools, hydraulic test equipment, hand and industrial power tools.

* Some proficiency in either electrical or mechanical repairs and conduct basic equipment repairs for building and process equipment:

ELECTRICAL:

* Can identify standard brand of limit, micro switches, starters and control devises

* Demonstrates an understanding of installation of 110V circuit for control voltage and identify appropriate usage of such a system

* Knows how to electrically install different voltage motors

WELDING:

* Capable of reading/understanding blueprints

* Understands why welding rods are covered with flux

ELECTRONICS:

* Knows how to burn chips and program systems

* Understands ladder logic diagrams

* Knows how to very basically program a PLC

MECHANICS:

* Knows how to operate start-up, troubleshoot, maintain and repair some processing equipment, building equipment and refrigeration systems

* Understands how to install new equipment

* Understands vacuum conveyor systems

* Understands how to read and design blueprints to repair, modify and construct equipment and make process changes

* Knows OSHA compliance requirements for guards, cylinders and unsafe conditions

PNEUMATIC:

* Know how to troubleshoot Pneumatic systems, 4 way air valve

* Understand the application difference between hydraulic and pneumatic systems

* Understand how a rodless cylinder works

HYDRAULIC:

* Know how to repair receiver tank

* Understand the difference between a larger diameter cylinder and a longer cylinder

* Know how to troubleshoot Hydraulic systems, (Vickers valve, 4-way valve, pie press system)

REFRIGERATION/HVAC:

* Knows how to troubleshoot refrigerator systems and isolate problems (includes ammonia, glycol and freon systems)

BUILDING SYSTEMS:

* Demonstrates and understanding of the theory of the water distribution and its components, including heat exchangers, water softeners and water heaters

* Understand the electrical distribution system and identify its components

Physical and Other Requirements

* Travel by car or airplane with overnight stays
