Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) is one of the largest global asset management organizations of any full-service securities firm, managing and advising over $400 billion in assets, with 38 offices serving clients in 18 countries. The Hedge Fund Solutions team resides within MSIM and currently oversees over $20 billion in assets across a variety of alternative investment strategies. This team is staffed with approximately 75 employees and is based in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania (a suburb of Philadelphia), with additional offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.

The Hedge Fund Solutions team is hiring an analyst / associate to join their Opportunistic Strategies investment team. The candidate will be responsible for evaluating, executing, and monitoring investments across certain Opportunistic

Strategies including:

* Hedge Fund Secondaries -- Acquiring Limited Partner hedge fund interests on the secondary market -- these assets include private equity, real estate, public equity, and litigation claim assets

* Co-Investments -- Investing alongside hedge fund General Partners in single asset or niche concentrated opportunities across various asset classes (i.e., aviation, real estate, energy, structured credit, insurance)

* Primary Investments -- Invest in structured credit (non-agency RMBS, agency derivatives, CMBS, ABS), multi-strategy, and reinsurance hedge funds

RESPONSIBILITIES

Identification and Evaluation of Investment Opportunities:

* Determine pricing for hedge fund secondary purchases by underwriting investment opportunities at the underlying asset level

* Conduct strategy research to compare relative value across asset classes and help determine the most compelling way to express a particular investment view

* Participate in onsite meetings and conference calls with hedge fund general partners to asses risk and return profile of an investment

Investment Execution:

* Prepare investment proposals for presentation to the Investment Committee

* Collaborate with other functional areas to help facilitate investment execution

Investment Monitoring:

* Document notes from meetings and conference calls with underlying investments

* Provide sales team with attribution and positioning information as needed

* Monitor realized performance and distribution activity of investments relative to underwritten base case projections

* Analyze monthly risk information for each investment and highlight observations

REQUIREMENTS

* 1-6 years of experience in alternative investments or capital markets more generally -- breadth of experience across fixed income and credit related markets preferred

* Undergraduate or graduate concentration in Finance, Economics, or technical field is desired

* Strong work ethic, self-motivated with good interpersonal skills

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

* Attention to detail

* Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing

* Ability to travel on a regular basis
