Description

Production Technician - Responsible for preparing or packaging tobacco products, to a level that meets Tangiers company standards and meeting volume quotas. This includes chopping and preparing tobacco, preparing juice to mix with the tobacco, cooking, and the subsequent cleaning of the intermediate product. Production Technicians monitor production processes and attempt to correct any problems that occur during the production process or report the problem to a supervisor. 

Requirements/Responsibilities 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Producing a finished product that meets company standards. Preparing all ingredients necessary for tobacco production, using the correct formula, minimizing waste

Accurately weighing ingredients, measuring liquids, mixing and cooking tobacco; Monitoring stoves and temperatures to insure cooking is completed properly;

Restocking

Sealing packages

Writing names and numbers on packaging

Counting 

Equipment Operation

Chopping

Weighing

Heat Sealing

Cutting, safety and sanitation, maintaining a clean, neat workstation and warehouse. Complying with all safety and cleanliness standards; Trash removal; Cleaning additional machines or work areas in manufacturing area.   

Sweeping and mopping.

Leadership, promoting teamwork and helping fellow employees to achieve goals. Being helpful and respectful to fellow employees; Working with management and key staff to improve performance and implement new initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience.

•English fluency and basic math skills. • Working knowledge of weights and measurements. • Ability to identify numbers. • Ability to read standard clocks and tell time. • Excellent customer service skills. • Attention to detail. • Ability to reach equipment. • Organizational and problem solving skills.• Excellent handwriting/penmanship is quite helpful.

Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 75 Lbs. (34 Kg) occasionally or up to 50 Lbs. (23Kg) frequently. Manipulating and using dollies or carts to move up to 500 Lbs. (227 Kg) at a time. Using cleaning materials and equipment. Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements: Must be able to read labels, written directions and digital scales. Must be able to hear and follow verbal directions.

Working Conditions: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. Non-climate controlled production areas may reach temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 C) for more that one hour.

Entry level positions start at $13.00/Hr. and 40 Hrs./Wk. (5 x 8 hour work periods) for the training period as a minimum. Candidates successfully completing the training period will be offered a pay raise. The average entry level employee makes $14/Hr after one year of working for Tangiers. Tangiers operates 365 days a year and time off during holidays is normally not available.

Each department at Tangiers has volume-based quotas. Employees excelling in the amount of product produced while maintaining the highest quality standards are more likely to receive raises and promotions.
