About this job

Performs specific procedures for the screening and controlling of material used in the processing, manufacture and distribution of blood and plasma products.

1 Independently performs, interprets and troubleshoots laboratory procedures related to unit and/or donor suitability testing and other assays as required.

2 Performs routine analytical testing using manual and automated methods and procedures. Analyzes test results against set controls.

3 Performs one or more of the following on a regular basis, as needed: conducts necessary retests/repeats of initial re-actives; performs second technical review of test batches prior to releases of results; performs confirmatory testing; applies advanced skills to troubleshoot non-routine problems; provides technical assistance to or training of other, less experienced la staff, and/or participates in the design of training.

4 Reviews documentation to ensure that maintenance and Quality Control (QC) charts are completed per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Works within the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines and adheres to all regulatory standards within the Lab.

5 Participates in continuing education.

6 Follows all safety regulations, Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies and rules. Maintains a clean, safe work environment.

7 May act as supervisor designee or lead tech in the absence of the supervisor, as requested.

8 Operates analytical instrumentation and technical laboratory equipment. Performs troubleshooting and calibration of instruments. Performs routine preventative maintenance of assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure. Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data. Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.

9 Other job-related duties as assigned.

Education

* Associates Degree in Medical laboratory Science or associated field required.

* Minimum Medical Lab Technician (MLT) designation as required by the State of Tennessee.

Experience

* Two (2) years of related experience preferred

* Overtime and working extended hours may be required to support the operational needs of the lab

* Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time

* Ability to lift or carry up to 40 lbs.

* Occasionally exposed to hazardous chemicals and extreme temperatures

* Occasionally required to wear personal protective equipment

* Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions

* Frequently performs tasks while walking and standing
