PART TIME TRAVELING FIELD INTERVIEWERS (OVERNIGHT TRAVEL REQUIRED)

RTI International is seeking Part-Time Traveling Field Interviewers (TFIs) to work on the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health Wave V (also called the Add Health Wave V Survey), a government sponsored research study designed to explore how social environments and behaviors in adolescence are linked to health and achievement outcomes in young adulthood.  This part time position offers an average of 15-20 hours per week with some weeks requiring near full-time commitment and others requiring much less. Part-Time Field Interviewers in this area will likely need to travel 50% of the time with overnight, possibly out of state, travel required.

Responsibilities and Availability  

  • Conduct valid, high quality in-person interviews in compliance with all project protocols covered at training and documented in the project manual
  • Available for overnight travel up to three times a month.  Travel assignments will typically last 3 to 7 days but may be up to 14 days, depending on the assignment details. You must be fully open and available to accept travel assignments as needed
  • Adhere to a schedule set by supervisor that ensures respondents are contacted in a timely fashion
  • Need to be available to conduct interviewing during the field collection period as follows:
  • At least 15 - 20 hours per week, but sometimes as much as 40 hours per week in weeks involving mandatory training or overnight travel assignments).  Note the number of hours in each work week may fluctuate depending on case load and travel assignments
  • Primarily on evenings and weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and for overnight, possibly out of state, travel assignments
  • Must be able to spend at least 4 hours (not counting travel time) locating and contacting selected respondents on each field visit when work is plentiful

Qualifications

  • Positive, self-motivated
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communications skills
  • Experience using a laptop computer and / or tablet
  • Reliable personal automobile available for business use
  • A valid drivers’ license and automobile insurance as required by your state  
  • Have regular access to an in-home internet connection for data transmissions
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the first date of employment
  • Availability for overnight travel either by personal automobile or air travel as specifically required for project trainings and other activities
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
  • High school graduate or GED

Preferred Qualifications
One year of experience directly or indirectly related to interviewing is preferred.  

Required Training
Travel to, attend and successfully complete a 4-day long FI training session, including certification, in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. RTI will cover the cost of travel, meals, and lodging

Compensation
Pay rate for this position is based on relevant experience
Per diem for overnight travel and mileage reimbursement
