The primary role of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist 3 is to coordinate the day-to-day activities and resources of the Sutter Health Shared Laboratory technical sections for a specified clinical specialty. These sections provide inpatient and outpatient laboratory services to Sutter Affiliates. The incumbent serves as the primary on-site leader for technical activities in regard to developing, maintaining and administering Laboratory policies, processes and procedures. Working within the direction provided by the Shared Laboratory Technical Supervisor, Technical Manager, and VP, Operations, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, monitoring, controlling, coordinating, integrating, standardizing, assessing and improving the day-to-day technical operations in the assigned Laboratory section.

The secondary role of the CLS 3 is that of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. In this role, the incumbent assures the integrity of the pre-analytic processes, performs analysis, maintenance and quality assurance, produces test results and interpretive reports and acts in a consultative capacity to physicians, aiding in patient diagnosis and disease management. Additionally, the CLS 3 is responsible for evaluating and implementing new tests, monitoring CAP survey performance, training, administering annual competency tests, and maintaining quality for all testing procedures for the technical sections of the laboratory. In addition, the CLS 3 will assist the Technical Supervisor and Technical Manager, under Medical Director and VP, Operations review, in selecting and evaluating new analyzers and conducting annual test procedure reviews.

Education

BA/BS required

Clinical Lab Scientist License (CLS-L) required

Experience

At least two years recent working experience in the technical areas of Hematology, Chemistry, Immunochemistry or Molecular sections of a clinical laboratory

Skills and Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of theory, test applications and process control of specified technical disciplines.

Knowledge of basic laboratory information technology and computer concepts is also required

Must be able to ensure the operational readiness of complex laboratory analyzers and methods through technical expertise and effective method management.

Must also be able to operate analyzers and equipment to produce accurate, timely test results.

Must demonstrate an ability to effectively identify pre, post and analytic process variations and take appropriate and timely corrective action.

Must have proven written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate an ability to effectively interact with medical professionals, and lead personnel in a variety of situations by effectively applying transactional and transitional skills.

Must also have demonstrated ability in problem solving, coaching for results, and organizing, prioritizing and managing diverse activities in a changing environment.
