Job Summary:

The oncology clinical pharmacist will work with physicians and nursing staff to maximize the benefits of drug therapies and minimize toxicities in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The daily activities of the oncology pharmacist are diverse and will include patient education, protocol review, order verification, profile review, medication therapy management, protocol development and oversight of technicians compounding chemotherapy. The primary practice environment will be within the hospital operated outpatient infusion center.

The Department of Pharmacy provides a decentralized clinical staffing model that includes multidisciplinary rounding, pharmacy prescribing under protocol, staff and patient education. Our pharmacists are involved with our antibiotic stewardship program, PGY1 residency and student teaching for various schools of pharmacy. Most recently, the Department of Pharmacy has expanded clinical services to include emergency medicine services and a discharge/transition of care pharmacy service to better meet the needs of our patients.

Essential Duties:

* Actively contributes to intra and inter-institutional dissemination of information to other members of the health care team to promote quality pharmaceutical services.

* Participates in human resource management through the departmental recruitment and interview process.

* Continuously involved in the development, implementation and monitoring of departmental operations with department managers

* Assists the technicians in prioritizing tasks as needed and seeks opportunities to build a team relationship with technicians to provide pharmaceutical care

* Provides patient education based on the needs of the patient

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy

Licensure or Certification:

Doctor of Pharmacy licensure by the State of Tennessee

Current controlled substance license from the State of Tennessee

Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist preferred

Experience:

Six months of hospital experience preferred

PGY2 Oncology Residency or equivalent experience preferred

Equipment/Skills:

The pharmacist must have training in:

* IV Admixture/Chemotherapy Order Entry/Preparation

* Meditech

* Micromedex

* TPN

* Compounding pumps/scales for BARD's

* Pharmacokinetics

* Pyxis

* Computer applications
