Job Description
Nature of Work:
The primary objective of this job is to improve quality, treat and support patients and family members in a caring professional manner and fulfill the hospital's mission to serve our patients and their families.
Essential Functions:
  1. Responsible for all Administrative functions including, but not limited to preparation of annual operating budget & capital requests, monitoring of productivity consistent with departmental standards, management of all personnel, preparation and submission of all required reports as needed.
  2. Preparation and monitoring of Departmental Performance Improvement. Present at monthly Program P.I. meetings.
  3. Participate in all management levels meetings as deemed required by the Department of Behavioral Science.
  4. Responsible for readiness for all internal and external audits
  5. Provides clinical leadership and supervision to all clinical staff in accordance with departmental policy with exception of M.D.
  6. Insure all department staff adhere to SIUH administrative and personnel policies
  7. Serves as Co-Chairman of the Community Advisory Commit tee.
  8. Covers for EAP Coordinator during period s of extended absence
  9. Directs clinical and administrative activities of the unit. Interviews, hires, trains and schedules unit staff. Performs annual / probationary staff evaluations; responsible for annual budget submission and ongoing expense monitoring; incident reporting, internal and external; statistical reporting; incident reporting.
  10. Supervises admission screening.
  11. Sets goals and standards. Delineates responsibilities to ensure comprehensive clinical care within the scope of the program.
  12. Provides professional consultation and supervision of patient care.
  13. Conducts regular clinical and staff meetings.
  14. Responsible for policy recommendations pertaining to the unit.
  15. Designs, develops and implements ongoing quality improvement activities
Qualifications
Education: Master's Degree in Social Work and/or PhD. in Psychology
License:: lcsw
Work Experience: Minimum of five years clinical, psychiatric experience both inpatient and outpatient. Two years supervisory experience.
Working Conditions: Exposure to patients in crisis in an acute care setting. Will be required to travel to other hospital sites for meetings and related functions; may be required to travel to external provider and referral sites as delegate and appropriate. Requires long periods of standing and sitting; verbal and written communication in person and via telephone.
Physical Demands: Minimal physical demand, i.e. stooping to open/close file cabinets; some walking and standing, mainly sitting (55%)
Mental Demands: Must be able to read, write and communicate in English in a proficient manner; requires strong leadership skills; must analyze and interpret complex and/or highly technical materials, professional research and statistics

Supervision Exercised: Overall direction of all non-medical clinical and support staff for Outpatient Mental Health Programs.
