Job Summary:
Supervise all RN’s for Goshen program. Ensure that all medical needs of the consumers are met.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Overall coordination, organization, and development of medical care for the Goshen DD Department. Responsible for direct and indirect supervision of nursing personnel in Goshen DD programs.

  • Carry out the goals and objectives of the agency.
  • Interview applicants for RN positions in the department and make appropriate recommendations. Evaluate all nursing staff.
  • Liaison with Prescription Drug Company. Ensure that medical supplies and prescription drug needs are met.
  • Attend conferences concerning clients and relates pertinent information to the appropriate people.
  • Maintain community contacts and resources as these affect the medical department.
  • Responsible for the development of leadership and gives direction and supervision to staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Represent the medical department at meetings for the Coordinator.
  • Participate in overall planning for program and services to meet the needs of the clients. Maintain the mission of person-centered planning.See that the proper procedures concerning reports, requisitions, etc., are followed.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary teams.
  • Responsible for all medical evaluations and review within prescribed time frames.
  • Perform and provide health appraisal procedures as needed.
  • Evaluate, teach and document self-medication steps to consumers.
  • Schedule any recommended/specialized medical/lab appointments.
  • Provide follow up on any hospitalizations and emergency treatment to ensure adequate medical care.
  • Responsible for ensuring the ordering of all medications.
  • Institute and promote orientation programs and in-service training programs for members of the staff and delegates areas of the training program to others when necessary.
  • Collaborate with all outside agencies to ensure healthcare/ medical needs of all consumers are incorporated into their daily program.
  • Interpret and comply with all related standards and regulations. Provide staff with in-service training related to regulations. Collaborates on new development projects.
  • Prepare Surrogate Decision-making packets for those consumers that need the intervention of this committee.
  • Responsible for management of medication procedures. Oversees all documentation and recording of medical reports. Recertify staff annually and evaluate semi-annually as necessary.
  • Obtain certification in Tube Feeding/Insulin. In Service and monitor staff on Tube Feeding/Insulin delivery.


Education & Experience NYS Registered Nurse Certification required with at least 3 years RN experience. 2 years of supervisory/management experience.  Knowledge of OPWDD rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements: When necessary, assist staff with consumer physical needs related to the medical condition.
