Intercept Youth Services is now hiring at one of our Roanoke community homes.  We have  several part-time Resident Flex Counselor positions available!  Our flex counselors serve as a positive role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors, and contribute to the formulation and implementation of the resident treatment plan.  These positions work directly with youth in the home, thereby giving the worker hours towards their QMHP clinical hours! 

Intercept Youth Services, provides mental and behavioral health services to at-risk youth, families and adults throughout Virginia. Intercept was founded in 1996 as a single group home, since then has evolved a full continuum of services, ranging from community based to out of home placements, throughout the state of Virginia.  Intercept currently provides crisis services, in home counseling, mental health skill building, school based services, parenting skill/education, therapeutic mentoring, treatment foster care, group homes, assessment and diagnostic homes, and independent living programs for older adolescents.  Services are person centered and outcome driven.  Intercept’s continuum of care allows services to be used individually or as wrap around to fully support the family.  Intercept is a growing company with a focus on hiring internally. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor's degree in the human services field from a four-year college or university or an Associates degree and three months experience working with children.

Direct Care

Interact with all residents in accordance with the treatment plan and the therapeutic process.

Maintain therapeutic relationships which do not allow self-disclosure of personal or social information to residents.  Use good interpersonal communication skills to gain resident cooperation and resolve resident conflicts.  Exercise appropriate intervention in accordance with the least restrictive alternative to protect resident from harming self or others.  Fair, firm and consistent use of behavioral system (point sheet).

Provide transportation, accompany, and directly supervise residents on outings, activities and appointments in the community.  Demonstrate initiative, creativity and flexibility in organizing and conducting recreational activities and outings.

Facilitate resident community meetings.  Administer first aid to resident in response to minor medical problems, and medications as appropriate.  Keep the resident’s chart accurate.

Educate residents on personal care issues such as personal hygiene techniques, proper care of their rooms, meal preparation, housekeeping, chores, etc. that they may not have learned.
