POSITION PURPOSE:

The Customer Analytics team conducts advanced modeling and analytics of proprietary and syndicated data in order to provide strategic and actionable insights about the customer. The Director leads this team of technical experts who perform all data extraction, modeling and analysis projects leveraging deep expertise in statistical and quantitative analysis. In addition to managing the daily operations of the team, the position delivers insights and consulting services to a broad range of internal clients, including the executive leadership team, Marketing, Merchandising and Store Operations. The Director is a subject matter expert on the home improvement customer and provides ongoing strategic thought leadership about our markets, product categories and competitors.


MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • 20% Lead the Customer Analytics team in creating customer understanding based on advanced analytical methods
  • 20% Provide leaders and business partners with actionable insights on customer value, needs and preferences through frequent, proactive communication as well as clear and concise presentations and reports
  • 20% Consult business partners on the appropriate use of statistical and quantitative modeling and analysis techniques to inform their decision making processes
  • 10% Build, lead and develop a team of analysts
  • 10% Manage planning, design, development and implementation of analysis projects
  • 10% Estimate resources and cost for analytic projects and manage project budgets
  • 10% Initiate, evaluate, recommend and implement analytical best practices

NATURE AND SCOPE:
  • Position reports to the Sr. Director, Consumer Insights and Analytics
  • Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • Must pass the Drug Test
  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE; 10

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Economics or equivalent
  • Previous experience managing and developing analytical teams
  • Previous retail or other relevant experience
  • Highly skilled in translating business questions / problems into analytical models

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills at all levels; ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Expertise with statistical, econometric, and quantitative analysis techniques relevant to customer analytics (e.g., logistic regression, categorical analysis, discriminant analysis, clustering, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of quantitative theories and techniques and their role in the business context
  • Knowledgeable in the use of statistical programming software, especially SAS Proficient with PowerPoint and Excel
