Starbucks is seeking a creative, experienced, self-motivated technical product manager, principal to support the Data Activation, Syndication and EIM team willing to carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner in alignment with Starbucks guiding principles.

The Data Activation, Syndication and EIM team is responsible for defining and driving the business and technical strategy for Data Syndication and Enterprise Information Management at Starbucks. We are using a new way of working and technology stack to accomplish this mission. The team is rapidly expanding their knowledge and expertise in this area to streamline business process while improving data quality, efficiency, consistency and ensuring compliance with all data regulations.  Initially this position will focus in the area of Product and Pricing but in the future, will be leveraged across all data domains.

The technical product manager, principal has the key responsibility for proposing and influencing the strategy within a new domain platform as well as gaining alignment cross-functionally at all levels within Starbucks Technology. This position is responsible for contributing and driving a shared strategic vision for domain data syndication by working closely with our external business customers, Starbucks business counterparts and technology partners.

The right candidate will possess a strong technical product management background, and have previous experience in the Product and Pricing domain. To be successful in this role this person must be able to demonstrate influence in all areas of the organization. 

Summary of Key Responsibilities

The technical product manager, principal operates as the Subject Matter Expert for their technical domain and operating at a strategic level. Some key responsibilities for this role are the following:

  • Partner closely with the Enterprise Architecture discipline to define and socialize the domains long-term strategy and plan. Evangelize that vision throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate trade-off decisions between investment, schedule and benefit.
  • Actively lead risk mitigation; lead problem resolution as issues arise
  • Build effective relationships with key internal engineering teams.
  • Monitor and track product feedback to help in the prioritization of development product releases.
  • Gather detailed problems from internal client interviews and turn them into the features, epics and stories that set the direction for product engineering teams.
  • Direct the day to day work of other technical product managers and analyst day-to-day tasks to turn the vision and strategy into action.
  • Collaborate with internal customers on training, testing, and related activities.
  • Optimize the process and user experience of the domain’s tools and processes including system management, performance testing, monitoring, onboarding and off boarding
  • Demonstrates leadership courage 

 


Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Hands on experience in developing technical roadmaps, setting shared a vision, story outlines, writing epics, grooming product backlogs and coordinating/prioritizing conflicting requirements in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Detail- and results-oriented, able to analyze data, process and workflow to justify domain decisions and apply key learnings.
  • Ability to thoroughly understand complex business and technical issues and influence decision making at all levels of the organization without formal reporting structure authority
  • Technical knowledge in web application and SaaS is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge in Java or .Net, REST, Hadoop, Impala, Spark, DataStax
  • Strong knowledge of agile development practices, methodologies and tools (e.g. Jira, Rally).
  • Familiar with Domain Driven design methodology and concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience as a product manager within a technology environment, with a record of successfully delivering complex products and services.
  • 3+ years of experience in Product and Pricing domain
  • 3+ years of technical development experience developing web based applications
  • 3 + Experience in Product Management, and Enterprise Information Management 
  • Recent experience with Enterprise Software delivered as SaaS/Cloud
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, ability to quickly master new systems and/or processes, capacity to stay organized while managing competing priorities
  • BA/BS in Computer Science
