Responsibilities

Communicates effectively with internal and external team to facilitate ease of accepting referrals to the ED or Direct Admissions.Ensures calls are answered in a timely manner in a cordial, courteous and helpful way consistent with Mercy's Service Standards. Documents in EHR or other method for accurate documentation of plan for referral acceptance or alternative plan. Ensures audio recording of calls for future reference. Communicates with referring facilities physicians/providers regarding the referral process for ease of transfer or admission. Assures compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

Actively listens to Physician/provider needs and effectively responds with appropriate and timely action in accordance with policies and procedures. Facilitates timely acceptance of referrals and completely closes the loop with communication to all stakeholders. Executes excellent communication when working with all levels of personnel and contacts both in-person and on the telephone. Maintains patient privacy and confidential hospital/patient information. Presents self, position and Mercy appropriately to patients, visitors, providers and co-workers at all times. Performing other duties as assigned.

Actively participates in evaluation of clinical care and utilization of resources against current standards. Applies admission criteria for appropriate level of care. Documentation to include but not limited to referrals, time to acceptance of referrals, providers and facilities referring, type and service. Monitors metrics to measure successful goal achievement. Maintains knowledge of EMTALA and maintains regulatory compliance.

Develops/maintains internal and external physician/provider relationships for the areas served. Clothing and badge and attending to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance consistent with Mercy dress code. Business attire may be necessary at times. Assures the delivery of a Mercy experience for the patient, family and referring facility as measured by high satisfaction feedback. Provides customer service and effective complaint resolution.

Qualifications:

Licensure: RN Registered Nurse in Missouri, or Nurse Compact State LicenseExperience: 3-5 years experience in hospital clinical setting that included physician/provider interaction preferred. Well-developed communication and influence skills.Certifications: BLS Basic Life Support to be current before the end of the orientation period.
