FTE: 1.0 (40 hours per week)benefit eligible
6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and every other weekend
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs work of routine difficulty in a variety of cleaning tasks that involve use of hazardous chemicals, heavy lifting in public areas, in the operating rooms, and other surgical areas of the hospital including Cath Lab, CTU, and Endo. Exposure to patients (including blood and body fluids). Daily cleaning of patient rooms, (plus transfer and discharge), precaution room cleaning, and carpet extraction in public and private areas. Operates floor machine(s) in public and surgical areas. Carpet extraction in public and private areas. Completes a variety of set-ups and special events per departmental requests. Flexible to work on all campuses to meet hospital construction cleaning and department needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, TRAINING EXPERIENCE: Environmental Service training in patient setting required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES SKILLS:
Must have appropriate relevant knowledge of environmental duties and responsibilities. Must be able to accept, demonstrate, and perform new responsibilities assigned to the Environmental Service Department. Must be able to exhibit tact, good judgment, honesty, and a high sense of responsibility when dealing with guests and peers. Must be able to comprehend written and verbal communication to complete daily work assignments. Must be able to use the computer. Must be able to complete daily work reports for completed assignments. Must be able to read, speak and understand English to use chemicals and to communicate with customers. Must be able to operate hospital computer. Must be able to take direction from those other than leads in Environmental Services Department in order to completed daily work.

JOB DUTIES:

Proper lifting, pushing and pulling techniques
Demonstrates competence in using ladders to clean light fixtures, vents, and other high areas
Demonstrates competence in vacuuming carpet in public and private areas as well as service vacuum equipment
Demonstrates competence in sweeping, dry and wet mopping hard floors in public and private areas; including stairs
Demonstrates competence in high and low dusting in public and private areas
Cleans equipment used in daily work tasks
Demonstrates competence in handling clean linen and exchanging the linen cart.
Demonstrates competence in handling soiled linen and delivers to soiled utility room.
Maintains housekeeping closet; keeping it clean, stocked and organized
Demonstrates competence in using trash compactor and box crusher
Demonstrates competence in using all cleaning chemicals (except cleaning tech level 5)
Reports work orders to maintenance for broken equipment; reports work orders for project work to Environmental Services both via the Intranet
Cleans walls, mirrors, light fixtures, and windows in assigned work area(s)
Demonstrates competence in cleaning spills containing blood or bodily fluid
Demonstrates competence in cleaning public / private restroom
Demonstrates competence in cleaning up / disposing of patient trash
Cleans up hazardous spills as trained (spill team)
Delivers biohazard trash to storage area; labels and tapes boxes and prepares for pickup
CLEANING TECH 3:
Demonstrates competence in handling biohazard trash and needle boxes
Demonstrates competence in daily and discharge cleaning, patient room equipment; including bed, over-bed table, chairs, commode, wheelchair, IV stand, and monitor tower, etc.
Demonstrates competence in cleaning / sanitizing patient showers
Demonstrates competence in daily and discharge cleaning of precaution rooms
Demonstrates competence in hanging / taking down cubical and shower curtains / drapes
CLEANING TECH 4:
Demonstrates competency in cleaning the OR between cases
Demonstrates competency in end of day cleaning of the OR
Demonstrates competency in monthly terminal cleaning of the OR
Demonstrates competency in wet mopping / or vacuuming floor in surgery area, office, hallways, and entries as appropriate (OR specific) and Non-OR surgical areas (Cath Lab, CTU, Endo)
Assists in cleaning OR equipments that is used and returns it to storage area if necessary
CLEANING TECH 5:
Demonstrates competence in extracting carpet
Demonstrates competence in spot cleaning carpet
Demonstrates competence in machine scrubbing hard floors
Demonstrates competence in stripping hard floors and baseboards
Demonstrates competence in buffing / burnishing hard floors
Demonstrates competence in applying wax to hard floors
Spot cleans carpets in assigned area(s) while daily cleaning
Buffs / burnishes and rotos shampoos, or extracts carpets
Demonstrates competence in use of all powered and un-powered equipment
Adjusts schedule to accommodate project work being done hours of day and break times
Demonstrates competence in lifting and moving equipment, exam tables, etc. To be able to complete floor tasks under direction of department staff. DO NOT UNPLUG EQUIPMENT.
Demonstrates ability to maintain prolonged kneeling and bending when working on edges and baseboards during project work
Cleans equipment used in daily work tasks
All other duties as assigned
COMMUNICATION
Demonstrates competence in communicating with patients and families
Demonstrates competence in communicating with nursing staff and physicians
Communicates with coworkers between shifts
Communication actively with customers to ensure the project is done within the time frame of the work area
Communicates with customers to provide a safe workplace while completing project verbally and through proper usage of signage; wet floor sign etc.
Communicates with customers about the placement of furniture, equipment, and electrical cords during the project
