Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager - Nursing assists with management of patient care activities and assigned staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction and support to unit staff. Supervises admissions, conducts assessment of patient's needs, and initiates nursing care plans. Evaluates and documents patient progress.
  • Facilitates planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives and objectives for the unit.
  • Assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a liaison between the manager, staff and other areas within the organization. Identifies and resolves issues affecting delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):
    • Advanced Life Support specializing in Advanced Cardio Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Advanced Life Support is not required to work at SHHP.
    • BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 
    • Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. NRP only required for PICU department.
    • Certified Registered Nurse specializing in Emergency Nursing Pediatrics obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Certified Registered Nurse specializing in Emergency Nursing Pediatrics is not required at SHHP.
    • Certified Registered Nurse specializing in Trauma Nurse credentialed from the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. TNCC not required at SHHP.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support credentialed from the PALS Certification Institute obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. PALS not required at SHHP.
    • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Florida Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. 

Education:

  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing program required

Work Experience:

  • Two years of experience as a Staff Registered Nurse required.
  • One year of experience in a leadership role required.
