The Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Interventional Endoscopy Service. The NP will be responsible for coordinating the care of 30-40 patients a week. These include inpatients, outpatients and ED patients as needed. The NP will also work closely with all members of our interventional endoscopy team to assist with patient care issues. This position is essential to increasing the efficiency of the clinical service and vital to a well-functioning division. The NP activity significantly increases division revenue through increased throughput and overall increased GI attending productivity manifested as increased procedural volume.

The NP position coordinates patient care across 2 main areas: (1) Outpatient clinics primarily held on HIP 8 and W. 51st Street and other sites as deemed necessary (2) Inpatient service on the Interventional/Biliary consult service.

Responsible for seeing and evaluating outpatients and inpatients requiring GI consultation. Communicate effectively with attendings, GI Fellows and house staff. Support all aspects of care for Interventional GI patients, and collaborate closely with all health care disciplines to ensure continuity of care and efficient and high quality care.

Support inpatient gastroenterology consultative service and biliary service. Assist in coordinating patient transfers from outside hospitals. Assist in getting patients admitted after procedures if required. Network with other clinical disciplines and support staff in expediting pre-operative evaluations. Conduct preliminary consultations and present appropriate clinical information to attending staff. Monitor day-to-day clinical events on inpatients and provide necessary clinical data to make treatment decisions. Present patient follow up to attending staff and follow prescribed treatment plan.

Support outpatient care for office visits, follow-ups, and procedures. Conduct histories and physicals on all assigned patients. Order and follow up on diagnostic/laboratory tests. Provide patient education. Ensure adherence to established clinical guidelines and participate in development of new patient management protocols/algorithms. Manage GI schedule to ensure timely scheduling of patient procedures and follow-up appointments. The clinics covered by the NP will include patients for colorectal cancer screenings, general GI, and complex advanced endoscopy problems. Schedule and coordinate procedures with GI staff and pre-operative testing unit. Communicate pre and post-operative plan with patient, family and referring physician. Communicate with endoscopy staff and vendors to obtain appropriate equipment for upcoming cases. Evaluate and discuss patient responses to treatment with attending staff, residents, and nurses. Provide post procedure follow up care.

Actively participate in educational and research activities. Assist faculty with education of residents, medical students and nursing staff. The NP will be involved in research activities of faculty, particularly patient enrollment and education during clinical studies. Contribute to case conferences and performance improvement meetings. Perform additional duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience. Current New York State NP and RN licenses. Must be board certified. Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Familiarity with all aspects of Gastroenterology and/or background in GI surgery. Current DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) certification. Must be available to work a full week schedule, Monday-Friday. Excellent communication skills. Special Instructions Preferred Qualifications Experience in gastroenterology and/or surgery. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
