  • The Restaurant areas of Wegmans provide customers with a one-of-a-kind dining experience at The Burger Bar/Buzz Coffee Shop (gourmet burgers, coffee and more – counter ordered, table delivered), the Market Café (Pizza, Sandwich Station, Made-to-Order Salad Station, Asian Cuisine, Sushi, and other selections), and at our Full-Service Specialty Restaurant. Our Restaurant cooks are responsible for producing high-quality food with the finest ingredients that follow our core recipes.

Cook

As a Cook (Cook II / Cook III) in the Restaurant areas, you will display your passion for preparing food as well as a desire to develop your culinary skills and talents within the kitchen. Our cooks play an integral role in preparing ingredients and core recipes; merchandising products and ensuring customers are provided with incredible service and access to products throughout the day.

What abilities must I bring to the table to be considered for Cook positions-

In addition to incredible customer service, successful applicants will possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience working as a cook
  • Food preparation experience and knife skills
  • Certification of training in liquor, wine, food service and/or alcohol awareness programs
  • Experience working in a service-oriented position at a multi-faceted food service facility, including restaurant, hotel, country club, conference center, casino, theme park, grocery, or retail setting
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts or Hospitality

Lead Cook / Team Leader

As a Team Leader within The Market Café areas (Burger Bar/Buzz Coffee Shop), you will be overseeing a smaller department independently with guidance from the Department Manager. All Team Leaders work closely with team members to develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide incredible customer service. You will work to ensure products are available for customers and displays are well merchandised and eye appealing. Team Leaders lead employees by example to complete tasks in the department and best service the needs of customers and the store.

As a Lead Cook (Cook I), you will work closely with the Executive Chefs and Sous Chefs to oversee a culinary area within the kitchen or you may oversee a smaller department (Pizza, Salad Station, Sandwich Station) independently with guidance from the Sous Chefs. Lead Cooks are given the opportunity to work hands on developing the food passion and skills of employees, while displaying their expertise in culinary arts by producing great tasting food. You will also ensure the kitchen is operating smoothly and customers are provided with incredible service and meal solutions.

As a Restaurant Team Leader (Market Café, Full-Service Specialty Restaurant), you will work closely with employees and be empowered to demonstrate true hospitality, provide incredible customer service and an engaging dining experience through creating an exciting atmosphere and providing the tools, resources and support for service staff to grow their skills, passion and knowledge.

What abilities must I bring to the table to be considered for Team Leader positions -

In addition to incredible customer service, successful applicants will possess one or more of the following:

  • Managerial/supervisory experience
  • Food preparation experience and knife skills
  • Advanced knowledge of food and beverage (including beer, liquor, and wine) and their pairings

Work Environment

  • Work Involves continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5-20 pounds, with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely.
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments including temperature changes
  • Tasks will be performed using and in proximity of coolers, ovens, stoves and other hot equipment; cooking and kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his/her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours.
  • In order to maintain a high standard of food safety, Wegmans policy is that when working in Perishable areas a hair restraint must be worn at all times.  Also, facial ornaments and jewelry must be removed.

Other

  • Days/Hours Requirement:  Full time applicants will be required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and must be available Monday through Saturday throughout the year, including some holidays.  Sundays are not required but will be paid at time and one half.  Shifts vary based on department and typically include a variety of early mornings, afternoons and evenings for all employees.
