About this job

Assesses, plans, implements, directs, supervises and evaluates direct and indirect nursing care for patients during conscious sedation in the procedure room. Coordinates activities of the procedure technician and physician to ensure safe patient care during procedures, as well as provides patient care in pre-op and PACU. Participates with other facility team members to provide optimal patient care and efficient patient flow taking into consideration the population specific needs for patients at all stages of life.

Education/Certification/Licensure:

Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing Required

RN - Current license to practice in the State of California Required

BLS/CPR & ACLS Required

Experience:

* Significant experience working in preoperative, intraoperative and post operative units, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center. This level of experience is typically achieved in approximately one to three years. Three years preferred.

or

* Interns or employees that have successfully completed the GI training program.

and

* Significant experience providing conscious sedation in procedure/operating rooms.

Knowledge:

Demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully interact with diverse health professionals, physicians and patients.

Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control, and sterilization practices is required.

Must have current knowledge of instrumentation and equipment utilized for GI procedures..

Knowledge of the use and function of GI equipment is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of sedation drugs, dosages, side effects, and adverse reactions.

Extensive knowledge of recommended peri-anesthesia standards/practices.

Demonstrates the ability to utilize biomedical equipment.

Special Skills/Equipment:

Excellent written and verbal communications skills including functional supervision/delegation and human relations skills required

Must be a flexible, creative individual who is open to change along with the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Ability to operate and trouble-shoot PACU and procedure room equipment.

ACLS/BCLS (per facility policy) required

Computer skills required.

Adult training skills preferred.
