About this job

Thisposition reports to the Director of Emergency Services. The ER Staff RN cares for patientsacross the developmental spectrum from the young infant to the elderly adult ina dynamic and challenging environment. This position requires a broad knowledge base of pathophysiology andpharmacology as well as highly developed clinical nursing skills. The ER RN must be confident in clinicalskills and possess the ability to set priorities, quickly assess and collectdata and then initiate an individualized care plan and establish goals for theER visit. Documentation must be accurateand thorough. Daily practice is drivenby effective communication skills between members of the health care team andother departments. Providesindividualized patient / family teaching and discharge instructions. The nursein this position may initiate CPR, cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy, IVaccess and together with the ER physician may initiate ACLS protocols includingdefibrillation and administration of IV emergency drugs. On-going continuing education and provide thebase of professional growth in this clinical area. Actively participates on assigned teams andcommittees. Follow safety standards for employeeand patient safety goals. Adhere to LAMC's service standards and values in allinteractions with patients, other customers, and fellow employees.

Education: Associate or Bachelor Degree in Nursing

Licenses/ Certifications: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Mexico, orcompact licensure EmergencyDepartment Registered Nurses are required to obtain American Heart PALS/ENPC inaddition to the BLS and ACLS required for their position. New hires must have current BLS and ACLS uponhire, and will be required to obtain PALS/ENPC within six (6) months from hire.CENcertification encouraged.

OtherQualifications: Previous experience in ER or Critical Care setting required. Mustdemonstrate the ability to function in a fast paced team environment and committo high customer service standards. Technicalskills: Ability to communicateverbally, on phone and in writing. Competent literacy skills in English: to read physician's order,medication labels, and instructions for care. Mathematical skills to calculate medication dosages, IV drip rates,intake and output, etc.

PhysicalRequirements/Environment: Potential for exposure toblood/body fluids/tissues inherent in position. Personal Protective Equipment required for potential exposure to bloodand body fluids. Medium, work-exerting20-50 lbs of force occasionally or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently or up to 10lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those of light work. Activities including walking, standing,sitting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above and below shoulder. Require near and far visual acuity, depthperception, color discrimination, peripheral vision, hearing and feeling.

EquipmentUsed: Within a reasonable periodafter hire will be expected to master computer programs at LAMC (Med Host, HMS,etc.), and with training all equipment used in the ER (cardiac monitors,cardiac defibrillator, adult and pediatric crash carts, NIBP devices,capnometer, fluid warmer, orthopedic splints, suction devices, etc.)
