Job Description
Job Summary:
The Charge Registered Nurse LEE coordinates unit staffing and provides leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned medical-surgical area.
Responsibilities:
- Assigns, directs, educates and monitors nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contributes to or performs performance evaluations of staff.
- Assesses daily patient care needs and develops and distributes patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
- Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.
- Recognizes that each patient is an unique individual and has the right to quality nursing care that ensures mutual goal setting between the Registered Nurse and the patient. Assures patient rights and privacy are protected.
- Recognizing personal; interpersonal, and social systems, the nursing process facilitates the promotion, maintenance and restoration of an individual's optimal health, incorporating knowledge of growth and development through the life span.
- The scope of nursing practice includes the teaching, direction, and supervision of less skilled personnel in the performance of delegated nursing activities. Delegates the acts, tasks or functions and bears the responsibility for the acts, tasks, or functions within the scope of delegation.
- Assists in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Develops and maintains department quality assurance.
- Accountable to the ethical and professional standards as defined in the ANA Code for Nurses, the ANA Nursing's Social Policy Statement, the State of Michigan Public Health Code, and the ANA and Specialty Nursing Standards of Clinical Practice. Accountable to the standards set by Borgess Health as defined in the Administrative, Patient Care and Biosafety Policy and Procedure Manuals.
- Accountable to adhering to the standards set by regulatory agencies such as but not limited to the Joint Commission (TJC), Conditions of Participation of Healthcare Finance Administration (HCFA), and Michigan Occupational Health and Safety (MOSHA).
- Good organizational ability. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Good critical thinking and problem solving skills. Conflict management skills required.

Qualifications
Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

Required Credential(s):
- Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
- Finger Printing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.
- Licensed Registered Nurse obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Education:
- Graduate of a School of Nursing required.
Work Experience:
- One (1) year of experience required.
- Previous supervisor or charge experience preferred.
