Position Summary

Responsible for coordination and direction of safe and efficient patient care and throughput in the hospital by providing a communication link with ED, patient registration, LIPs and nursing units. Serves as clinical resource person in delivery and supervision of direct and indirect care processes. Provides competent leadership and direction for all hospital Codes and emergency management. Serves as agent for department and hospital executives when they are not present and reports concerns and events to the designated administrator on call.

Minimum Education Requirements

* BSN required MSN or Master's Degree in related field preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

* Nursing leadership experience required.

* Recent experience in supervision of others (within past 3 years); strong coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.

* Five years of relevant hospital nursing experience preferred.

* Two years critical care experience preferred.

* Expected to effectively manage through a regulatory survey; familiar with Joint Commission and CMS regulations.

* Demonstrated nursing experience in an acute care setting with diversified clinical knowledge.

* Must be qualified by continuous and ongoing education and experience to apply leadership direction, assessment and problem solving to assist nursing and all ancillary/support services in the care of neonate to adult populations.

License/Certifications

* Current Colorado RN License Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

* Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association

* PALS required upon hire or within three months of hire/transfer.

* Current ENPC may substitute for PALS requirement through the ENPC expiration date. PALS certification must be

* secured prior to ENPC expiration date.

* Clinical or Nurse Executive certification preferred

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

* Demonstrates skills as defined in the RN job description. *

* Physically makes rounds on every unit during their shift and participates in patient care as needed i.e., starting IVs, patient transport and performing admission/discharge procedures. *

* Facilitates creative development of processes and standards, which ensure quality patient care. *

* Maintains high skill level through ongoing education and meeting attendance. Readily adapts to changing technologies, policies, regulations and applies knowledge of current developments in daily work flow. *

* Participates in formulation or implementation of systems and programs to effect change and realize goals and objectives. *

* Provides close positive communication link within all patient care areas within the hospital for efficient throughput. *

* Develops positive communication links and a follow up plan with physicians to clarify orders, plan of care, and/or medical care concerns. *

* Manages clinical aspects of patient transfer, determines patient stability, need for transfer, attainment of facilities and medical coverage. *

* Serves as advocate for patients. *

* Follows up on resolution of stated or observed problems and communication of the follow through. *

* Collaborates with staffing coordinator, nurse managers and other leaders to ensure adequate staffing in the nursing units. *

* Responds to all STAT calls and in-house emergency codes. *

* Provides support in directing and coordinating Code Blue and RRT (in absence of physician) and services as a role model for patient care staff in emergency situations. *

* Serves as role model to associates by adhering to nursing standards, quality of service, professional conduct and consistent application of all policies and procedures. Is a resource person for associates in nursing process, technology, equipment, complex care procedures and/or tasks. *

* During a disaster serves as the Incident Command Center leader until the Administrator On-Call directs otherwise. *

* Reports or assists others in reporting occurrences through the electronic occurrence reporting system. *

* Participates in disaster planning. Keeps administrative staff, directors and unit managers apprised of concerns, problems and issues in a timely fashion. Communicates appropriately with news media per policy. *

* Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly
