Amgen is seeking a Principal Information Systems (IS) Architect who will play an integral role in building a holistic technology and process strategy while crafting roadmaps for successfully driving its tactical execution that aligns with the company’s overall objectives. Working closely with both business and technology groups, the incumbent will possess the vision of an Architect while demonstrating the technical detail of a hands-on Engineer: designing, leading and implementing services and solutions - both on premise and public cloud. Additionally, the Principal IS Architect is accountable for creating and leading virtual cross functional teams to deliver technology solutions for the business demonstrating speed and agility.

The Principal IS Architect will report to Senior Manager Information Systems at its Capability Center in Tampa, FL. At Amgen, our mission is simple: to serve patients. The Infrastructure Cloud and Automation team is the global enterprise group that leads the design and delivery of innovative technology solutions to streamline operations and increase business value.

This job involves some travel, both domestic and international, that is expected to be less than 10%.

Key Responsibilities for the Principal IS Architect include:
Supports the Service Owner, peer full-time employees, and managed service provider in the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the technology service
Ensures service is aligned with the key principles of service ownership which includes: meeting the needs of the business, cost effectiveness, scalability, compliance, reliability, and resilience
Demonstrated excellence in communication, leadership and negotiation skills with ability to drive decisions amongst stakeholders while proving thought leadership and technical oversight to bring infrastructure & cloud enabled projects into high functioning production services
Leads efforts to design, build and develop Proof of Concept (POC) solutions and services that will create or evolve integrated infrastructure and cloud service areas.
Partners with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions while leading making contributions to design for new infrastructure services and refinement of existing
Advices on balancing business, technical and cost constraints in support of projects while evangelizing and communicating the roadmap within IS and with their Business partners
Leads software development or automation for proposed solution by defining user stories and features in collaboration with cross functional teams in an agile, face paced development environment
Provides technical mentoring and coaching to junior engineers or architects

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 2 years of IS Architecture experience
OR
Master’s degree and 6 years of IS Architecture experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of IS Architecture experience
OR
Associate’s degree and 10 years of IS Architecture experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of IS Architecture experience

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience across multiple infrastructure technologies such as Operating Systems, Data, Application Hosting, Virtualization, Storage, and Networking
Demonstrated experience designing scalable, fault tolerant and high performance Infrastructure solutions in healthcare, banking, or other regulated industry
3+ year’s solution architecture experience for one or more public cloud (AWS, Azure or Google), using their IaaS or PaaS capabilities
3+ year’s development experience using languages such as C#/.NET, Java, Python, Golang, JavaScript etc.
Automation experience using Chef/Puppet, Ansible, Shell Scripting in Windows or Linux environments
3+ years’ experience in integrating cloud services using native SDKs or Web Services (RESTful or SOAP)
Familiarity with software development tools (such as Git, SVN, Jenkins) and practices (such as CI/CD)
Understanding of networking concepts, security fundamentals, role-based security, encryption etc.
Excellent data-driven, problem solving analytical skills with proficiency in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues with previous experience in a high performance team
