JOB TITLE: Back Server/Busser
DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage
REPORTS TO: Dining Room Manager
WORK HOURS: Employee will be required to work day or evening shifts, both weekdays and weekends. Scheduling flexibility is required.
Summary:
To serve guests in a warm, accommodating and professional way, making sure the guest is 100% satisfied. The back server will work in close cooperation with the front server in every aspect of guest service including expediting food orders, delivering food and beverage to the tables, clearing and resetting tables, bread service and assisting in keeping the restaurant service stations, as well as other functions indicated by management.
Essential Duties:
1. Offer guests of the restaurant an enjoyable, expertly served dining experience conforming to the Balboa Yacht Club standards.
2. Anticipate and service guests' requirements before requests are made or necessary.
3. Serve and clear food and beverage items in an unobtrusive and professional manner.
4. Complete opening and closing side-work as assigned and set all tables and stations according to standard.
5. Carry trays, bus and reset tables with appropriate linen, china, glass and silver.
6. Move tables and chairs, when necessary.
7. Breakdown any buffets, displays or side stations when needed.
8. Retrieve and stock all linen, china, silver, glassware and food and beverage items.
9. Serve an appetizer to guests while explaining the contents and preparation.
10. Provide water, bread and butter service throughout the meal to guests.
11. Assist front servers in all aspect of service.
12. Use guest names for all guests as guest name becomes known.
13. Prepare the dining room for service: maintain all flatware, condiments and beverages in a constant state of readiness.
14. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe kitchen and dining room environment.
15. Follow all Policies and Procedures and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in verbal and written English.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and work.
- Ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends.
Preferences:
- 2 years dining room service experience.
- Upscale food & beverage knowledge.
- Experience in up-scale dining service and team service.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible / participate in team work.
- Experience in a service industry.
Physical and mental requirements:
- Ability to push, pull or lift up to 30 lbs., using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment.
- Ability to bend or kneel for up to 15 consecutive minutes to perform cleaning tasks in the dining room and kitchen.
- Ability to work standing, walking or moving for 3 - 3.75 hours without need to sit down.
