CASHIER

We are hiring in both our San Rafael and Mill Valley locations.

Company Profile: Sol Food is an authentic Puerto Rican eatery located in downtown San Rafael and downtown Mill Valley. We began in 2003 with six employees and have now grown to three locations with over 250 dedicated employees. We are committed to producing satisfied customers who will happily recommend Sol Food to their family and friends.

Overview: Cashiers provide friendly, responsive service and work as a team to provide exemplary customer service. They are directly responsible for the overall satisfaction of the customer.

Duties and Responsibilities: The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job, but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or for other reasons.

Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service Duties:
    1. Maintain a complete understanding of menu, including flavors and ingredients.  Have knowledge of relevant food allergies and dietary needs; be able to answer customer questions regarding the menu accurately and clearly.
    2. Greet customers with a smile.  Make eye contact. 
    3. Inform guests of specials and menu changes.
    4. Monitor and observe guests’ dining experience.  Anticipate their needs.  Respond promptly and courteously to all needs and requests.
    5. Ensure customers are satisfied with the food and service.
    6. Direct customer complaints to FOH Supervisor.
    7. Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return.
    8. Be able and willing to assist fellow employees as situations arise.
  2. Register – POS system:
    1. Take food and beverage orders and enter orders accurately into the POS system.
    2. Up-sell to increase check average. Offer beverages, sides, desserts, etc.
    3. Inform guests of final check total, accept payment, and count the cash and process credit card charges. 
    4. Properly count change back to customers.
    5. Open and close registers properly with FOH Supervisor.
  3. Runner/Busser Duties:
    1. Deliver food and beverages to guests in a timely manner.  Assure accuracy of order and quality of food.
    2. Between seating’s, bus and clear tables accordingly.  Promptly clean tabletops, chairs, and stools.  Check and clean floors.  Reset and arrange tabletops.
    3. Sort and stack silverware, dishes, etc. in designated areas.  Restock station and all FOH service wares.
  4. Seater/Greeter Duties:
    1. Welcome and greet all guests.  Ensure guests feel comfortable. 
    2. Answer questions and make recommendations you genuinely feel guests will enjoy.
    3. Assist is seating and finding space for customers during busy periods.  Communicate regarding the family style seating.
  5. Safety & Sanitation:
    1. Clean and maintain workstations in accordance with all safety and sanitation guidelines.
    2. Observe all food and physical safety requirements established by the organization.
    3. Report all safety and sanitation concerns to the FOH Supervisor in a timely manner.
  6. General Duties:
    1. Communicate effectively with team members and report any concerns to the FOH Supervisor
    2. Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
    3. Use the opening checklist to properly set up a station.  Have checklist signed by FOH Supervisor.
    4. Perform side work and maintain a clean service area throughout the shift.
    5. Use closing checklist to properly close station; check out with FOH Supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have and be able to do all of the following:

  • Fluent in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • A positive work ethic; this is very manual labor.
  • A sense of urgency and willingness to hustle.
  • Have an understanding and passion of the Sol Food culture and processes.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Take direction well; understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Can creatively solve problems and effectively implement solutions.
  • Good time management skills; ability to manage and complete priorities and workflow, multi-task and be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Acceptable appearance and demeanor.
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage service and dining room functions.
  • Basic math skills and ability to handle cash.
  • Must be able to learn and follow work guidelines based on Health Department, OSHA and ADA regulations.
