Position Purpose:

Assists the nursing staff in rendering patient care by providing those services necessary for patient care and unit operation. Works under the direction of the professional nursing supervisor and charge nurse. Provides direct patient care to all ages of patients, particularly focusing on the adult patient.

Job Description Details:

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

* Assists patients with meals, trays, and snacks.

* Obtains and documents vital signs.

* Assists with Fresh Air Breaks.

* Assists RN and MHC with admission tasks.

* Gathers patients for meetings.

* Documents groups as appropriate or directed.

* Assists patient with hygiene needs.

* Restocks kitchen and supply closet.

* Maintains clean group room, kitchen, admission room and closets.

* Attends to patient needs such as laundry, etc.

* Makes patient charts and care kits.

* Assists with written warnings to patients as directed by RN.

* Helps maintain a safe milieu.

* Acts as Preceptor.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* High school graduate or equivalent (GED).

* Past experience must include at least one of the following: Graduate of a Nurse Assistant Program Former experience in the capacity of an Orderly, Nurse Assistant, or Medical Assistant Current or past enrollment in School of Nursing with adequate clinical experience as a student nurse Corpsman or Medic in the Armed Services

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* Regular and routine exposure to occupational hazards or contagious diseases which require special precautions.

* Regular and routine exposure to workload pressures and frequent interruptions.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

* Registered Nurse/Inpatient Substance Abuse Program.

* Has no responsibility for the direct supervision of any other employees.
