The role of the Logistics Manager is to provide the leadership, supervision and support needed to optimize equipment logistics, fleet allocation and resource utilization. This position ensures World-Class delivery and cost-efficient equipment logistics. They demonstrate leadership in customer and employee satisfaction/growth across the metro area. They implement all corporate and local logistics initiatives and aggressively pursue and own the customer service and financial benefits associated therewith. The role includes the direct supervision of the logistics team including dispatchers and drivers. Leadership & Supervision: *Manage logistics team day-to-day. Provide leadership and supervision needed to consistently deliver World-Class service to internal and external customers. *Motivate, coach and train dispatchers and drivers to exceed customer commitments and expectations as well as to comply with standard logistical processes. *Staff each position adequately based on skills and workload. Schedule all drivers and dispatchers and maintain accurate and up-to-date time & attendance records. Approve all absence requests based on workload and coverage imperatives throughout metro area. Implement strategies to optimize staffing levels/skills and deliver World-Class service. *Where applicable maintain productive labor relations with union steward and ensure compliance with labor agreement in force. Responsible for performance management of direct staff including all functional managers. Continually upgrade talent through the following actions: *Evaluate performance and promotability of team members. *Recruit, hire, develop and retain top talent among diverse, skilled, college-educated (where applicable) candidates. *Identify and provide necessary skills training and regular coaching both in one-on-one sessions and in team meetings. *Provide regular performance feedback. Reward and recognize employees to reinforce positive behaviors. *Promptly develop and present individualized Performance Improvement Plans as needed. *Develop local bench from URI employees, competition, local colleges and trade-schools. Champion of diversity recruitment. *Identify retention risk employees and conduct regular stay-interviews as well as with top performers. Partner with HRM to oversee performance evaluation and compensation processes as well as ensure high levels of employee engagement. Safety: *Promote a culture of safety and discipline through leadership, exemplary personal compliance, accountability and communication. *Aggressively promote, communicate, and implement all corporate, region and metro area safety objectives, policies, and procedures. *Ensure total compliance throughout all metro area facilities, operations and inside sales personnel as well as prompt incident/accident/near-miss investigations and resolution. Hold all associates and employees accountable for compliance and prevention. *Collaborate with all Safety officials and corporate risk management to ensure the support of prescribed safety programs, including audits, safety training, OSHA compliance, and DOT regulations. *Responsible for aggressive and continuous performance improvement in injury recordable rate and near-miss reporting. *Ensure all employees continually maintain all required operator/IVES certifications and licenses. Logistics: *Own and lead logistics execution throughout metro area: -Oversee delivery dispatching to ensure World-Class customer service and efficient use of delivery resources and personnel. Responsible for hiring and optimizing the use of outside hauling contractors when necessary. *Responsible for proper staffing of drivers and dispatchers; develop and implement strategies to optimize staffing and deliver best-in-class service. *Responsible for optimization of equipment delivery & pick-up routes. *Responsible for leading the industry in delivery & pick-up performance metrics as well as achieving top percentile CFBO performance while meeting operating expenses goals and objectives. *Leverage footprint and fleet to provide World-Class customer service and contract fulfillment. *Initiate fleet transfers in & out as well as within metro area to optimize logistics as needed. *Assist in locating and transferring needed equipment when demand exceeds metro area fleet capacity (short and long term). *Advise Area Operations, Fleet & Service Manager in allocation of fleet based on local demand, facilities, maintenance and yard capacity, always maximizing customer service AND cost efficiency. *Advise Area Operations, Fleet & Service Manager in maximizing fleet ROI and utilization, providing input as to fleet transfers in/out of metro area. *Shares responsibility for all fleet and logistics metrics and KPI's for metro area including but not limited to CFBO scorecard, days without accident, fleet ROI, dollar/time utilization, 30/30, OEC NA, re-rent as % of revenue, % outside hauling. *Participate in logistics meetings to continually improve CFBO performance and devise improvement strategies in collaboration with logistics, operations and sales teams to drive to World-Class performance. Foster atmosphere of customer service and cooperation. *Responsible for development and implementation of logistics strategies and programs throughout metro area, including central dispatch and FAST. *Aggressively support, communicate and ensure compliance with all federal/state/local regulations throughout metro area including but not limited to all required DOT and internal safety inspections. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and logs as required by law and internal policies. *Train all drivers in safe loading and unloading procedures and ensure high level of compliance among associates. Cross train drivers where appropriate to develop flexible, responsive, customer-focused logistics team. *Promote a culture of uncompromising safety (wear of proper PPE and compliance with all traffic laws, safety policies, etc.), defensive driving and courtesy while operating company vehicles. *Motivate, train and coach logistics team to create a World-Class customer experience at all customer touch points. Maintain high level of accountability to high standards of professionalism, attention to details, procedural compliance, customer care initiative, professional appearance and demeanor. *Train logistics team to identify customer needs and revenue opportunities and either offer incremental services where appropriate or promptly report them to the appropriate member of the sales team. *Optimize delivery fleet utilization, make appropriate recommendations *Partner with Service Manager to maintain functional and safe delivery fleet. *Delegate as needed and perform all other duties as assigned by Area Fleet, Maintenance & Logistics Manager. Education: *High School Diploma *Bachelors Degree Experience: *Extensive logistics and leadership experience (10+ years) *Excellent knowledge of all applicable federal/state and local regulations and experience with all required record keeping. *Strong knowledge of logistics accounting and P&L. Knowledge of Rental Flow. *Proficient in most Microsoft applications and systems (Excel, Word, Outlook, RentalMan). Other Skills Required: *Must be result oriented with ability to influence others. *Demonstrated strengths in analysis, prioritizing and problem solving. *Performance management and coaching skills. *Receptive to change -- Change agent. *Must possess strong organizational and delegation skills. *Strong leadership and communication skills Working Conditions: *Logistics, Maintenance and Service Operations Environment.
