The Patient Financial Services Leader manages, oversees and directs all staff and functions of the Patient Financial Services (PFS) department. This position tracks and organizes revenue cycle initiatives that improve revenue capture, eliminates variation, stream-line business processes, and minimize areas of revenue leakage.
*Assists CFO as lead of hospital's Revenue Cycle team.
*Provides input and direction to revenue cycle and business strategic plan and goals.
*Provides operational and strategic leadership to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate all PFS functions.
*Directs the PFS leadership team to achieve established goals and their management of day-to-day operations.
*Ensures systems and controls are in place within PFS.
*Achieves established quantity and quality performance metrics and service standards and supports continual improvement towards industry top quartile performance related to key indicators of the revenue cycle.
*Oversees and manages PFS departmental costs and is accountable for budget preparation and cost control management.
*Supports compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
*Maintains strong working relationships with client stakeholders, including regular performance reviews of their revenue cycle departments including key performance indicators, benchmarks and metrics, revenue and operational goals for each entity.
*Maintains knowledge of current policies, procedures, and protocols and assists in developing departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
*Achieves revenue cycle results for the organization.
*Takes leadership role in technology implementations affecting department and serves as a liaison to clinical and departmental staff as it relates to PFS operations.
*Interprets entity-specific reports related to department performance, staff performance, and financial performance and ensures appropriate action plans are executed.
*Reviews billing departmental performance to ensure efficient, proper, complete collection of earned revenues.
*Drives improvement in cash collections, days in accounts receivables, aging and bad debt.
*Maintains and fosters excellent payer relations with key fiscal intermediaries and government oversight agencies and maintains and foster excellent relationships with contracted health plans and medical groups to support effective claims submission/resolution and contract compliance.
*Evaluates the performance and effectiveness of management and staff related to the revenue cycle metrics and works to continuously improve performance, outcomes and maximize cash collections.
*Oversees and directs patient billing and collection activities including accounts receivable management, third party payer follow-up, claim submission, third party vendor management, appeals, and payment posting through subordinate managers and supervisors.
*Leads and represents client's mission and values and ensures adherence by all PFS associates.
* Creates environment of high associate satisfaction and retention, promotes diversity and creates a respectful work environment.
*Works in accordance with corporate and organizational security policies and procedures. Understands personal role in safeguarding corporate and client assets. Takes appropriate action to prevent and report any compromises of security within scope of role.
